A point away from the state title, Olpe players and fans had a feeling that if Janae Haag got the ball set to her, the Eagles would be lifting the championship trophy.
Haag had just recorded two kills on match points Olpe had to win after Washington County had gone ahead 24-22 in the deciding third set. Haag’s latest kill put Olpe up 26-25.
The ball was set to her on the left side with ample room for her to work. She wound up and struck the ball soundly. Washington County’s Heidi Stegman was able to get a hand on it, but the ball harmlessly deflected to the ground.
