Reverend Grover

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

What is actually happening here? A recent article you penned basically excoriated people for judging and labeling an entire group of people. Are you sure you want to step out in the public square to engage in the same “vulgar” behavior?

Quite frankly, Reverend, this is the first time I have ever seen the label “conservative” on John Dean. The psychologist’s descriptive analysis you quoted in your last article could easily be applied to any plethora of ideologues whether academic, media or bureaucratic. Can anyone honestly say they have not met an individual with a very authoritarian attitude that was a liberal? But such is often the mistake of the unwitting “authoritarian” in denial.

My perception of a person who bears the title of “minister” has always been one who invite’s everyone to come to understanding of their “higher power.” A Christian minister usually focuses on the Lord being an answer to conflict. Psalms 85:10 states “Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.” Where is the love, Reverend?

It would seem your articles have an intention outside this scope. You seem determined to create malice and intolerance while you point the finger at others and label them as “self-righteous, authoritarian and various other negative labels. Perhaps your playbook is not the same one I thought pastors were supposed to read and lead by.

Or perhaps, you are working more from the handbook that has been affecting a lot of activity in our nation lately. “Rules for Radicals” by Saul Alinsky, is a book that appears to be having quite a bit of influence right now.

“Rules for Revolution” is a shorter version and you can pick it up for $1 to $3 just by a quick internet search. It helps one to understand some of the unrest in our nation and exactly why it is being fueled. I might suggest people order it and see for themselves if the articles accusing others of “intolerance” are really a diversion for a movement that is afoot to bring about “CHANGE with little HOPE. I, for one, became very disenchanted when I found out people were being paid to stir up the masses. True, it is a capitalistic society, but to make a living by creating chaos and fueling dissention somehow takes a lot of the nobility out of the entire concept. If individuals in our nation were watching closely the results of the “Arab Spring” they might be less willing to attempt to encourage that activity in our nation. Many people have died and will continue to lose their lives with little certainty of a more positive future.

I think a more positive approach would be the concept of “United we Stand, Divided we Fall” especially at a time of war wouldn’t you Reverend Grover?

Reddog - President Obama deserves an E for Effort in terms of trying to bring both ends of the political spectrum together, more than any recent president. Did he succeed? No. So, now he needs to put up his fists and fight since that's what the GOP wants to do. One must give credit to "No Drama Obama," but now we Democrats and Indies want him to fight. Our President is putting forth a jobs bill, but the GOP has not. The GOP is fighting within, the old school vs. the Tea Party.

I'm proud of my President, and he will have my support in 2012.

netloafer,

There is no solution needed for the "conservative problem" given time they will hang themselves, problem I see is that the current crop of GOP is heading so far to the right I don't think they can push much further without totally abandoning all but the far right.

As a registered independent I would vote for Ron Paul if he attained the nomination, but if he does not Obama gets my vote, he is a centrist in my opinion since both the right and left are not really thrilled with him.

People are not stupid, the current congress has the lowest approval rating since they started tracking it.

"The survey, conducted Aug. 18-22, found that approval of Congress has dropped to its lowest level in AP-GfK polling – 12 percent. That's down from 21 percent in June, before the debt deal reached fever pitch."

What bothers me is that the GOP is more concerned with making Obama a one term president than they are righting this country, Mitch McConnell has publicly stated this is a goal of the party. There are many people hurting out there and there are actions that could be taken to help but it is clear nothing will happen because they want the guy out. I don't care what side you sit on, that is just plain wrong in my book. What concerns me most is how long this crap will go on, because I seriously doubt we can get Ron Paul the nomination, and none of the others have a chance.

Thanks.

One of the things that tends to happen in these discussions is (1) Those outside a particular movement define the members of the target movement with a broad brush (2) They treat the movement like a monolith (3) They tend to defeine themselves as caring, compassionate, reasonable as opposed to their target.

The most common term used today is "greedy." Greed, as it is so often defined, isolates the other guy. It's the other guy who is greedy, not me. Of course they're not greedy. There's nothing wrong with wanting what someone else has and claiming you have a right to it based on some nation of "fairness."

One of the reasons I hold conservative views is that I much prefer looking after my own interests rather than trusting someone who claims he is more compassionate, caring, and less greedy than me.

I'm also skeptical when the part is used for the whole. Conservatives are not a monolith.

Republicans on the national scene are doing nothing at all with regard to Jobs except trying to get rid of the job in the Whitehouse which I see as dirty politics and a shame when this country is suffering as it is. But of course you Kansas Republicans have your jobs secure with living in a red state.

create (anonymous) says...

Steve,

The government is only the problem to a point. I'd love to point to the people entirely for being at fault, but that would be naive. In so many cases, they are pawns, especially when it comes to the economic problems of this country.

The people did not decide to outsource their own jobs. Unfortunately, the people are partially at fault for that outsourcing because they kept wanting more money and wouldn't settle for less. Ford and GM are examples of how a man can keep his job and still put out a good product.

No, Steve, millions of government jobs are not the answer; however, perhaps it is time to give industry a tax break and they will begin to hire again.

There are a ton of reasons why the private sector is not hiring, and has not been hiring for several years. We all know one reason why -- they can pay dirt wages overseas and the people there are happy to get the pennies a day because they don't live in houses, they live in hovels with extended families. An Indian man working for an American bank credit card section makes $6K a year and is rich doing it.

Thank goodness the feds are vigorously investigating Wall Street and have been for the past two years. I am very happy to see this. THIS is our government at work for those of you who believe we need less government. Less government is what caused the likes of insider trading. They don't think anyone is watching. BS. Not now!

Only yesterday they arrested yet another one for insider trading, the second one in less than a month. These two are big fish. Up to now, the fish have been small. It takes time to investigate this kind of stuff. And THAT is what the government can continue to do because we have all been screwed by Wall Street and Real Estate.

But this president that the GOP spends all its time trying to get out of office is at the helm. What the hell did George do about Wall Street? I'm only sorry these protests didn't take place on his watch. No, he kept the people's attention riveted in Iraq while he wagged the dog.

Wall Street fraud is what caused all of us to lose bundles of bucks from our 401 K's. Now we get practically nothing for our savings accounts. It's a huge cause and effect scenario and housing is just a small part of it.

If the government were not investigating Wall Street and Banking fraud, who the hell would? Who even has the necessary equipment and access?

Sorry Steve, you're wrong in this case. Be careful of making sweeping generalizations or you'll sound like reddog.

Eeeeek.

netloafer,

I too hold conservative views, many of which are based in fiscal matters. The problem that I and many of my generation have with present day conservatives is that

1. Recently the conservatives have not conservative at all, which begs the question why are they even called conservative.

2. Conservatives tend to be conservative on all social issues, why can we not get a fiscal conservative that is not an extreme social conservative?

There is nothing wrong with being conservative and looking out for your interests, but I don't believe in enacting polices which pigeon hole others into a particular belief system and way of life.

i think if Peggy were to answer you, it would be her boy brownback's standard line. Kansas is going to do away with it's state income tax, (to help the Koch bros.), and it is giving tax breaks to industry locating in Kansas.

It is the indecision, political wrangling and stalemates in Washington D.C. that most effects our economy right now. Not the rich Wall street types.
