Emporia State University is the biggest economic engine our community has. When the university is successful, our community is successful. For that reason there is no more important job hire than finding the right president to lead ESU.
With a declining enrollment for the last four years, flat fundraising, lots of deferred maintenance and several important job positions to be filled, it will take a special person to lead the university.
A search committee has narrowed 19 candidates to four. Tomorrow the first candidate will make a visit to ESU and Emporia.
Dr. Michael Shonrock is from Texas Tech University and is the Senior Vice President for auxiliary services, enrollment management, and student affairs and an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology and Leadership.
Community members are invited to meet Shonrock at an open forum on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Sauder Alumni Center on the ESU campus.
We welcome the candidates to town. We hope citizens will take the opportunity to visit with all candidates to give them a nice Emporia welcome but, most importantly, to voice their opinions to the search committee about which candidate they think can lead ESU to be a standout institution in the Kansas Regents system.
