With 12 teams present and more than 90 total golfers, the Olpe Eagles faired well in this year’s Class 1A State Golf Tournament Monday at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
When all was said and done, the Eagles finished second overall, one spot behind Ashland and placing two golfers in the top 10.
Andrew Spellman and Chase Coble began the day for the Eagles posting scores of 95 and 93 respectively. Coble’s 93 would break a tie with Pleasanton to earn Olpe the second-place finish overall.
The Eagles saw their top two performers Chad Schmidt and Devin Arndt tie, each shooting a 79 as they placed fourth and fifth overall in the meet.
“I hit the ball all day solid,” Arndt said. “I just didn’t let myself get down and just kept my head up and kept hitting the ball. I didn’t put myself in any trouble, so it was a good day.”
Not too long afterwards, Schmidt finished up his day posting a 38 on the back nine, the lowest nine hole score for any Eagle on the day.
