For the second time this year an Emporia man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
While out on bond awaiting sentencing for a stabbing during his birthday party in January, Dexter Galloway, 50, was arrested Thursday for stabbing a man with a knife in the torso.
Ricky L. Hervey, 48, was not hurt. The knife did not penetrate the victim’s jacket. Hervey told Emporia police he feared for his life and thought Galloway was trying to kill him.
Police received a call at 2:47 a.m. about a possible stabbing at 509 State St.
Hervey told police he was with a female friend at that address when confronted by Galloway. He said Galloway was upset that he was with this friend.
Hervey said there was a confrontation and Galloway stabbed him. Galloway then chased Hervey from the area before Galloway returned back to 509 State St. By that time officers had arrived on scene.
Police said based on the victim and witness statements, and evidence gathered at the scene., Galloway was arrested and taken to the Lyon County Jail.
Galloway was charged with attempted murder in January following an altercation his girlfriend’s niece during a disagreement at his birthday party Jan. 8. According to court documents, drinking and a verbal altercation led to Galloway stabbing her in the stomach.
The attempted murder charge was later amended to aggravated battery that is intentional and caused bodily harm.
After an initial delay, the case went to trial May 2. A jury found Galloway guilty. He is scheduled to be sentenced on that crime June 23. He was out on a $5,000 bond.

Do you think they are regretting setting the bond at $5,000?
