Dennis Mosebey - Emporia
Wednesday, March 2, 2011
I have noticed in some Emporia businesses, employees are forced to stand at that their stations with not even a stool to take a break on.
What is the purpose of this? No employee who works for long periods should have to do this. I ask those businesses to please invest in something to sit on — surely your employees are worth it.

Are you kidding me? It surely doesn't hurt people to stand on the job! This has to be the silliest letter the Gazelle has ever published.
P.S. I'm standing as I write this--it burns more calories.

Perhaps they are expected to walk around and work and interact with the customers; therefore, there is no need for a chair.

They never gave me a stool to sit on at the factory I worked at in 12 hour shifts and only 3 breaks, 2 - 15 minute and 1 - 30 minute in that 12 hours. I couldn't have done my job in a seated position! I agree with bobhornet, this is a truly ridiculous letter.

In this town the customer is the one who should have the stools. Go into 50% of the stores and request an item, and wait 30 minutes while the employee looks on the computer,( I sometimes wonder if the person on the computer is even trying to find the item,) after 30 minutes, they tell you that they dont have it, of can have it in 3 days.. Topeka is 50 miles away if a person needs the items quickly.. The auto parts stores are the worst, where do they come up with these people????????

Factory workers make a whole lot more money per hour than a clerk in a shop. Nervy comparison.

Give me a break.
You give me a chair to sit on and the next thing I know, you'd be firing me for sleeping.
Here's a suggestion, train me in professionalism, customer service and lay clear expectations for me. You'll be surprised at what I can do.

Wait this has to be from an old Seinfeld eppisode! George gets the store security guard a nice comfy chair and at the end of the show the guard is sound asleep while the store is being robbed!

I'd have to disagree with you create...I worked at a factory which I will not mention, ahem.menu, where I only made 8 bucks and hour and worked 12 hour shifts. I bet there are some clerks that make more money than that.

You may be right, gogreen. You know, I thought Menu paid more than that. I've heard it's hard work. That's too bad.

You make good money if your full time...put they have a whole bunch of 'part timers' that work just as hard...if not harder out there that don't make anything.

Every major manufacturer knows that Emporia's low skilled workforce is trained to injure themselves as soon as they are hired so that they can make a living off workman's compensation on their way to their dream job...SSI Disability. lol :-)

I was injured because the owner was too cheap to buy the right equiment. You dont make a living off workman's comp and S.S. disability doent pay that great either. Once you get messed up no one wants to hire you. So if you think we on disabilty are getting rich go try it

The only people making a good living off of disability or ss claims are the lawyers.
gogreen:
I suspect Menu has a bunch of part-timers so they don't have to pay benefits. These companies take full advantage of their workers.
My sister works for just such a company. They give her just the amount of hours to prevent them paying benefits, but their carrot is any sales over $30,000 and she can earn a small percentage of the sale. The next time you see one of those TV ads that promise "Buy two suits, get a third one free," they are the ones who do that sort of thing.

It took me over 3 years and over $3k to a lawyer to get something I paid into over 40years.
