A concert in Fredonia in August will benefit tornado victims in Reading and Joplin, Mo.
Laurie Starr, one of the concert’s organizers, said 12 bands will play, including a Bon Jovi tribute band and a Metallica tribute band. There will be all types of music, Starr said, including country.
Starr said 90 percent of the proceeds from the concert will go to Reading and the other 10 percent will go to Joplin, Mo.
“We really want to help them rebuild their lives,” Starr said.
Admission to the concert, which will take place Aug. 6 at the fairgrounds and rodeo in Fredonia, is $10 for adults or $5 for children. Starr said Reading residents will be admitted to the concert for free.
She said she encourages Reading and Emporia residents to attend the event.
Starr said organizers are also looking for a Reading family who would like to speak at the concert. Starr said she’s looking for a family to share their experience during the storm and how they and the town are doing now.
Reading families who are interested can contact Starr at (620) 714-1167. Additionally, Starr said people who want to purchase advance tickets to the concert can also call her for more information.
Starr said the idea for the concert started with two Fredonia residents simply wanting to help Reading. It has evolved into the concert, which she said might be the largest event ever held in Fredonia, which is 84 miles southeast of Emporia.
