Lyon County Emergency Management coordinator Rick Frevert provided an update on the tornado that tore through Reading on May 21.
“The state and federal folks were in town, we had a multi-agency meeting at the sheriff's office, which is kind of a kick-off facting-finding pre-declaration type of meeting,” Frevert said.
Frevert said it looks like either late July or August there could be a request for federal declaration for a disaster are from the State of Kansas to the federal government. Frevert said it appears Reading and Lyon County will be one of those applicants.
“The timeline is we’re 30 to 90 days out until we know what’s going to happen,” he said. “In the meantime we have a lot of documenting to get in place.”
