During the Lyon County Commission meeting on Thursday, the commission:
Approved warrants payable in the amount of $181,559.84;
Discussed a request to conduct an engineering study at the intersection of Road 215 and Road J7 to determine if a yield sign is warranted. Commission Chairman Scott Briggs said he would call the person who requested the study and the matter will be discussed at next week’s meeting.
Approved a reimbursement per diem for an outside court reporter. Ruth Wheeler, Lyon County Court Administrator, said the $38 is for meals for an out-of-town court reporter.

I have a news item for Monica Springer to run down. It was reported to me that Fanestil has been notified by way of an eviction notice that they must vacate their property. My source is a professional person who said, "I don't think you can evict someone when you don't hold title to the property." The best defense against usurpatory government is an assertive citizenery-William F Buckley Jr. WILL ROGERS said, "I don't make jokes, I just watch government and report the facts."

Oh please! Title? Government can take over and evict anybody from any property they want through Eminent Domain.
From West's Encyclopedia of American Law:
Eminent Domain: The right of a government to appropriate private property for public use, usually with compensation to the owner.
By the way, reddog, you didn't indicate who was the evictor, but your quote hints that it was the government. That is flood plain. Maybe the county will just have that place returned to green like FEMA wants. You don't know the whole story.

I personnly told the Gazette to get on this story. No businessman wnats to be pressured into making quick decisions and I don't want to get crosswise with the RDA, but perhaps there are to many factions on this board. However, I don't have a solution--do any of you?

oh i read your post, very carefully. your problem is, your professional doesn't know snot. you, kb didn't know about emminent domain. my sources would be the gov't. not you. until i hear it from the powers that be, not you, i will treat it as malicious gossip. stop spreading that gossip. also i don't give a rats behind what kent heermann thinks.

scarlett01_98, create,
On part of this I tend to agree with reddog.
Remember the way things are done around here. There are a lot of things that are decided in coffee shops, cafes, and other joints. And certain people are privy to things before they become "official".
REMEMBER THE ROCKS !
Reddog said he didn't want to get crossways with the RDA. I've got a newsflash for him. He is not even on their radar. But if someone thinks they can use him, (or others) to further their agenda it's good to have a few pets around to pat and stroke. good dog, good, good reddog.

I would caution all on here, to NOT put their faith in sources that are "official, or in government".
I am not picking on you,
Scarlett01_98, but you mentioned "the powers that be".
The powers that be have over $630,000.00 budgeted for land purchase for Fanestil in the city budget. On top of that there is a projected cost estimate of 1.4 million in other incentives for Fanestils new project just from the city. But those cannot be talked about because of ongoing "negotiations" .
That is over 2 MILLION DOLLARS of city taxpayer money. You would think the "powers that be" and maybe even a good newspaper would be more forthcoming about that.

Fanestill is now in the county and their new location will bring them into the city and in 10 years they will be paying city taxes. Next year Menue and comoplast will be on the tax rolls and that should help.

Eminent Domain. Eminent Domain. Eminent Domain.
If the county is going to claim that property, they will turn it into green space which is what FEMA requires before they will extend any agreements. Somewhere along the way, somebody's palm is extended.
All this takes is a little thinking and not jumping to conclusions and running amok.
Too hot to run amok.
I like that word. Amok.

So reddog,
Are you are able to guarantee that Menu and Camoplast will be open next year? IN THIS ECONOMY?
Can you guarantee if Fanestil moves to this new location after an infusion of tax dollars the owners will not just sell it? Something like that happened a few years ago, Modine sold their Emporia plant to another manufacturer who then closed it down and moved operations to Mexico.
you cannot, nobody can. There are no guarantees are there?

Goodoleboy,
I think you're right about the tax rolls. We give these companies ten year tax abatements, then they sell when the ten years is up. The next guy gets a tax abatement and on and on and on, ad infinitum. When do we citizens get a tax break from having those businesses in our midst?

My neighbor has one and they fall onto a shed with a metal roof. KAWHACK! Sounds like a shot going off. One nice thing it does is send all the squirrels scampering for their lives. Tee hee.
This morning, as Thomas Justagato was sauntering across the back yard, a walnut fell on that metal roof. YOWZA! Good thing I was at the back door to open it or he'd have run right through it.

but the population of our town has dropped 6.9%.
So wouldn't a corresponding cut in personnel be expected?
