Regents to start looking for next ESU president

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

It will take about two months to recruit candidates to the open president job at Emporia State University.

The Kansas Board of Regents met this week via a conference call. Andy Tompkins, president and CEO, told the regents of the time schedule for finding a new ESU president.

During the meeting the job description was approved.

The regents will meet in the first week of October to review candidates and do screenings, Tompkins said. After an initial screening the search committee will decide who to bring on campus to interview.

On-campus interviews will happen at the end of October or the first part of November, Tompkins said. The goal is to have a pool of three to five candidates to choose from in November and no later than December.

Tompkins praised ESU faculty, students, consultants and others who helped in the process of getting the job description together, calling it a “good process to get to where we are now.”

It's time to hire a non traditional academic President with Executive experience such as Gary Scherrer.

GARY SCHERRER was the state's top economic development director appointed by Governor Graves. Gary was an ESU graduate and Emporia gained a lot of new industry on his watch. The Graves Emporia connection was Graves Truck Line used Thomas Transfer as their exclusive agent for Emporia for 40 years. If you feel like I do, encourage this successfull executive to be our new President.

SAIL, it schould be on there minds because every other state school is out doing us in new students, even though we have the cheapest rates per hour. GARY SCHERRER is a marketing whiz kid.

ESU could save about $200,000.00 this year and wait until next year to hire a president.

Would anyone notice?

Hold on a moment, without a college president, there is no incentive for kids to riot.
