Wednesday, July 13, 2011

An Emporia man was killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash in Osage County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Matthew Dewayne Tucker, 31, was killed in a head-on collision around 8:52 p.m. Tuesday on US-75 about 5.5 miles south of Interstate 35. The highway patrol states that a vehicle driven by Cherity Levon Kerns, 35, of Osage City, was northbound on US-75 and Tucker was driving a vehicle southbound on US-75. Tucker approached a semi tractor trailer and attempted to pass and struck the vehicle Kerns was driving head on.

Brandon Lee Anderson, 27, of Emporia, was a passenger in Tucker’s vehicle. He was reported injured. Four-year-old Luke Kerns was a passenger in Cherity Kern’s vehicle. He was reported as injured. Passengers of both vehicles were taken to Coffey County Hospital. Their conditions are not known.
