COTTONWOOD FALLS — Kansas’ 150th Birthday will be celebrated in prairie style on Jan. 29 when Orin Friesen and The Prairie Rose Rangers perform in Cottonwood Falls.
The Rangers will perform at Chase County High School auditorium at 1 p.m. as part of a day of events that will celebrate the frontier visionaries that settled Kansas in the 1800s.
“The Rangers perform old-time Western music, the sort of music that would have been played in the sod houses and around the campfires by our Kansas settlers,” said Shirley Lincoln, one of the coordinators of the day of events that will take place that day throughout Chase County.
Tickets for the Rangers’ concert are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.
Presentations and demonstrations of settler’s skills like soap making, leather working, horseshoeing, weaving, rug hooking and ice cream making will be found at locations throughout Cottonwood Falls from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Community Building, Masonic Temple, Chase County Courthouse, Historical Muscum and Prairie PastTimes, all in Cottonwood Falls. At 11:30 a.m. that day, the Shaft House and barn in Clements will be dedicated.
“We’re throwing out the welcome mat that day,” said Sue Smith, co-planner of the events. “This is going to be a great day in Chase County.”
