High winds put a halt to the search for Jeremy Jenkins today but searchers are planning on continuing recovery efforts Saturday.
Coffey County Sheriff Randy Rogers said a 30 to 40 miles per hour wind made the search too dangerous to continue Friday. About 30 searchers in nine boats spent Friday morning looking in the lowered John Redmond Reservoir prior to the winds picking up.
Rogers said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was able to lower the reservoir this week by three feet. Doing so has greatly reduced the area of the search, but the boy’s body has not been found so far, he said.
Jenkins, 11, was waterfowl hunting on the reservoir with his father and uncle Dec. 4 when their boat capsized. Searchers found the bodies of Clint Yeager and Jason Jenkins along with debris on the shoreline of the reservoir. The boat was found in the water.
The search for Jeremy Jenkins had to be stopped Dec. 13 due to icy conditions, but it had been resumed lately with better conditions. However, the weather forecast does not look favorable in the near future.
“Saturday may be our last shot for awhile,” Rogers said.

Sad news.....I wish the wind would have cooperated.....it just wasn't meant to be today I guess. He is with God, his dad, and his Uncle...regardless where his body is....his soul is with Jesus. I know his mom needs his body located......that isn't what I mean......ugh....maybe I should shut up now......
