Three people were injured Saturday in a pair of separate accidents on the Kansas Turnpike.
The first accident occurred around 5:45 p.m. Saturday on the entry ramp of the Emporia Interchange of the Kansas Turnpike. Ronald Perkins, 50, of Kansas City, Mo., was driving a 2008 Freightliner when the load shifted. According to the Kansas Turnpike’s crash log, Perkins then overcorrected and the Freightliner overturned in the roadway.
The Kansas Turnpike reported partial lane closures during the accident. Theodor Anthony Moore, 47, of Kansas City, Mo., was a passenger in the vehicle. Both were reported wearing seat belts.
Another accident occurred at Mile Post 163.9 and involved two vehicles around 9:38 p.m. Saturday. Elizabeth Farr, 18, of Emporia, was driving southbound in a 2002 Nissan Sentra in the right lane of the Turnpike.
According to crash logs, Farr looked down, lost control of her vehicle and struck the median barrier. She then rolled into the driving lane and was struck by another vehicle driven by Ashley McKnight, 24, of Council Grove. McKnight was driving a 2006 Kia Rio. The log states that both were transported but there is no indication where they were taken. Both were wearing seatbelts.

maybe you should learn to shut your mouth and check your facts before you start spouting off false facts and attempting to start rumors and more drama. im so sick of everyone trying to make a simple COMMONLY occurred accident some over-exaggerated event. my parents both travel the turnpike individually every day and see that type of accident All the time! so maybe you shouldn't be trying to lay your guilt on someone else.

I hate to see such angry posts...maybe you should set the record straight then there is no speculating. And for the record...I travel the turnpike everyday to work in topeka...have for over 10 years now and I can count on one hand how many times I have seen someone hit the wall. Only one time not during a weather event.

wow. my parents travel it WAY more than you then! my dad has been for over 15 years and my mom for over 10! and that's just business/work trips, so not even including our countless trips to kc. my parents and i receive texts from the ks-tag authority informing us of wrecks, construction, closed off exits, etc, and everyday our phones go off multiple times stating there has been another wreck because someone lost control. oh, look, im traveling the turnpike right now back to Emporia and just saw another wreck. more things happen than other people realize, and those are called ACCIDENTS. the exact definition of the word.

As a relative of one of the girls in the car(s) I would like to "clear things up." The driver looked down to check her speed, because she was on one of the sharp curves in the Turnpike. Also, as someone who travels the Turnpike several times a week, I can tell you that I have hit the rumble strip (on that very same curve.) The Turnpike isn't all that some people like to think it is. There are often large pools of standing water after any measurable rain. Some of the curves, especially at MM 164 and MM 167 are sharp enough that people should (but often don't) slow down. I believe the driver looked down at her speed, hit the rumble strip, overcorrected and hit the barrier wall...the skid marks on the road sure support the theory, as there are black tire marks going up to the barrier wall, black marks on the barrier wall, and more black marks leading away from the barrier wall. I'm pretty sure, with the new law in place on Jan 1st and all, if the highway patrolman had thought she was texting he would have given her a ticket for texting. And it would have been heralded as the first "texting while driving" ticket. Just my .02

And one more .02 worth. I think we should focus more on the fact that this accident could have had a much more tragic outcome, but didn't. The collision, especially the second one between the two cars, was a violent collision. Instead of 2 young women escaping with minor injuries, we could have had numerous young women in the hospital, or worse. Hug your driving age kids tonight.

"justanotherperson" you are absolutely correct. I'm best friends and roommates of one of the people in the accident and heard word for word from each of my friends what had happened. I'm so glad the girl's weren't seriously injured. They are so lucky...
