What's up

Friday, February 25, 2011

I don’t get it.

Is it a crime or isn’t it? Everyone knows we are broke. The government is bankrupt. Most everyday someone is trying to get something for nothing. A government grant for this or that. I can’t tell who [is] the screwee or who is the screwer. And what about the promoters? Are they nothing but pimps or are they the good guys?

Let’s be honest and call a spade...a spade.

Bill Moyer

Sorry, I can't take anything away from Bill's article other than rhetoric. Kind of a waste of news print. Maybe the EG had an open space on their paper, today,

I believe what Mr. Moyer is saying is that we are broke and we don't hear much from our leadership on the subject. As a matter of fact, they continue to talk about spending as though our credit is just fine and our debt position is sustainable. The two parties continue to try to buy votes with IOUs that WILL have to be paid by future generations that, without a population boom of the brightest, hardest working, geniuses, will most likely have to pay it from a dwindling tax base with more and more retirees hitting the federal system.

I, for one, get the gist of what Mr. Moyer is trying to say. It lacks a thesis statement and rambles a bit but I think I get it. This is why professional politicians have no place in government.

I can see where you get that Steve.:) The whole "Promoters" as "pimps" or "good guys" really threw me there for a second. Especially with the recent Tommy "Gunn" Morrison arrest. At first I thought Don King was in town and running for the city commission.

Then I tuned in on the "being broke" rhetoric which really is true. At the risk of sounding "reddoggish" or "reddoggian", if you review the information on the US debt clock website, you don't need some goofy Alex Jones conspiracy theory to see that we are in serious financial trouble. The government got us into this mess and it will take unified US citizens voting tax and spend politicians out on their butts to get us out of it.

No matter your political orientation it is time to agree that debt financing is dead and the government can't take care of all of us because they are an undisciplined lot and susceptible to the power and privilege that comes with being a member of the legislative or executive branch of government.

Just my two cents on the subject.

I'm glad I could make you laugh Create.:) My hand is up as well Slimbolen. It clearly doesn't do any good to confront reddog or lead by giving him an example of opinionated, rational, political discourse. One day, I hope The Gazette will add the ability to filter out a user's content when they spam, post a litany of useless links or are just plain irrational or rude. I don't want to stymie anyone's free speech. Just want to be able to filter out the noise. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

The US Currency is currently used as the world standard. This isn't going to remain because the Chinese and Europeans are considering changing the worlds base currency to something else due to the fed's constant printing of dollars. By 2013 nobody in the world will accept US Currency so all your money will be worth less than the paper it's printed on. At that point the crisis will be so grave that what is going on in the middle east will look like a pick nick. It would be wise to store up rice, beans, canned meat and shelf stable milk. Firearms would be a good investment but remember a pistol is just something to help you get to a rifle. There is my advice for the fearful. Your welcome.

Thanks, REWBA, rice and beans it is. Yes, shelf stable milk. Wal Mart has some that tastes every bit as good as fresh. And yes, we'll have to protect what we store, both from the elements and from those who would steal it. Something tells me those big plastic tubs will come in handy. Spam? Yum!!!

create (anonymous) says...

I don't think so slimbolen99. However, he himself leads off with "I don't get it."

I'm trying to figure out who these "pimps" and "promoters" are. Mind you, I haven't spent a good deal of time on it, but still I think Mr. Moyer's problem may be with those who obtain government grants. Let's test the hypothesis.

While it is not a crime to obtain government grants, I do know for certain, that there are many, many grants out there. Some from the state, some from the feds. A good many of them are from private entities, and not governments. In fact, a good grant writer is worth his/her weight in gold for an organization. They even offer classes in grant writing at ESU.

Also, many grant writers are self-employed. They earn their livings by taking a percentage of the grant that is awarded.

There. By golly, I think I've got it! It's like I used to teach my students. Writing is problem solving. Keep writing about it and you will arrive at a solution.

So, here's my thesis. I believe Mr. Moyer is calling grant writers "pimps" because they employ themselves as people who obtain money from private or public funds.

What do you think?
