Pats on the Back

Editor’s Note: Each Friday, The Gazette salutes those who make Emporia and the surrounding area a better place to live and work. The following folks deserve a pat on the back . . .

• Shelby Clark who won the Emporia Gazette’s Valentines Dinner Challenge. Shelby won a dinner for two to the Grand Central.

• Kathie Butcher who is retiring as Vice President of Medical Services at Newman Regional Health. She has worked at the hospital since 1976.

• Aaron Cuadra and Alex Stone who will receive their Eagle Scout Awards on Sunday.

• Ron Thomas who received the 2011 Service to Mankind award from the Sertoma club.

• Peter Hauff who passed his architectural licensing exam. He is employed by Emig and Associates Architects of Emporia.

• Kathryn Flott who was named as a McDonald’s High School All-American.

• Sue Blechl, John Sheridan and Ellen Hansen for bringing the filmmaker Joe Winston to Emporia for a screening of “What’s the Matter with Kansas?”

• Organizers and participants of the Polar Plunge. The event raised $27,000 for the Kansas Special Olympics.

• Donors who contributed money to help Hetlinger reach their fundraising goal. They raised $2 million dollars to improve Hetlinger’s facilities.

• Newman Regional Health which opened their Express clinic. They will treat chronic and non-healing wounds.

• Charley Mahoney was selected to attend the Google Teacher Academy in Sydney, Australia.

I know his name...and I call him Ron. Let me assure you, Ron is one of the top assets in this community. If all of us were as willing to share our time and talents as Mr. Thomas, this would be a much better, much brighter community. I consider him to be Man of the Year for at least ten years running! Congratulations, RON THOMAS.

No, you Whoa corbin,I DID NOT SAY A BAD THING ABOUT MR.THOMAS, and I never would, you need to suck some more oxygen, and cool it. I was making my comment about sauder,, you remember him, the guy that hates people who are not using there real names on here?????? my reference was simple made towards SAUDER. since you seem to be playing top-cop on here lately, maybe you should reread comments, and I do think almost everyone knows not to do this,, EVEN ME..

I don't think the NRH Express Clinic is for wounds. That would be the wound clinic.
