Additional Plowing Planned

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

— The City of Emporia received significantly more snow than was forecast by the National Weather Service. Snow plow crews are working around the clock to clear snow from all streets in Emporia. Crews are starting with clearing the arterial streets, which are critical for emergency responses. Residential streets will be plowed after the arterials are finished. Snow plowing operations will not end until all arterial and neighborhood streets have been plowed.

Crews will also be removing snow from the downtown districts starting at approximately 6:00 p.m. tonight. Residents are asked to not drive unless necessary in order to give the snow plowing crews time to clean the streets. Customers and employees are asked to not park on Commercial, Merchant and Mechanic St. after 6:00 p.m. so the snow can be removed.

Questions about this press release can be directed to the City Manager’s Office at 343-4250.

I will take snow piled into my driveway as long as they clear the roads..... I would much rather clear my drive than the 2 miles of gravel road that is under 14 inches of snow. ;-)

They actually had our street plowed before 8AM and we live on the east side. Yes we had to shovel the drive out but it was well worth it. Thank you city plow crews! Money well spent "Zimmy".

methusula, you'll get about an additional foot of packed snow and ice if your driveway is like mine was. Yeah, "Oh, my aching back !!!" is right on target.

Natures Paradise has a sign stuck into their snow pile that reads free snow-you haul it. Now why would they want to give away a good pile of snow? :)
