Pats on the Back

Friday, February 4, 2011

EDITOR’S NOTE: Each Friday, The Gazette salutes those who make Emporia and the surrounding area a better place to live and work. The following folks deserve a pat on the back ...

• Emporia Arts Council, who held their grand opening of their new building. The Kansas City Chorale performed a concert for the special evening.

• Schmidt Custom Cabinetry, who wants to expand their business by building a new building in Olpe. They hope the expansion will create jobs and give the city a new industry.

• Colin Polston, who was awarded the 65cc Open and 65cc Senior division championships of the Central Kansas Motocross Association.

• Dr. Brenton Bennett, Dr Michelle Malone, Codi Pearson, and Heather Hardin who donated their skills to work a two-day free dental clinic in Hutchinson for the Kansas Mission of Mercy.

• Ariel Robello, who is the new director of multicultural affairs at ESU.

• ESU catcher David Allbritton has been named to the preseason South Central All-Region team.

• Olpe girls basketball team, which won its sixth straight Lyon County League Championship.

• City of Emporia snow removal crews, who did a great job clearing Emporia’s streets after the snowstorm.

Hey! How about a pat on the back for Jim Kessler, better yet an award for portraying Mayor of the City of Emporia; an action packed dramatic show!!!
