My mistake, advance voting is only 2 days after the Meet the Candidates only get together !

When will there be a Question and Answer public roundtable meeting with the Commissiion Candidates, so one can really get to know them and real feel for who they will represent and their ideas and plans for Emporia and its people ?

Having a Commission candidate tell you about themselves, without being asked questions and answering those questions, only serves 1/2 a purpose !

@methusla You propose questions are prohibited because the event is not scheduled to be a "Q&A" session. Inquiries are welcome, but in "personal or group discussion." Instead of being part of a large audience, you (and your friends) can be a part of interactive conversation asking specific questions :)

Methusla, good post and maybe I am wrong but, I think they want to get you 3 or 4 on 1. This is a chamber of commerce promotion. I have gone to these Chamber canidate get togethers and they usually have this West Star lobbyist as master of ceremonies. You write out a question and he decides whether or not it will be presented. Although I have attended for several years none of my questions were ever asked.

I know if I get to ask the candidates one question it will be this. Can you stand up to our city manager and say no to him when his little pet projects get presented to the commission for funding?

I think it should be very important for all voters to try and get to know some if not all of the candidates! Maybe we could get a more common sense commission in place instead of what we have now.

And sorry Mr. Meyers you won't get my vote this go around either.

It's time to get someone new..perhaps with some fresh ideas instead of the ol'bobble heads ( meaning you shake your head yes to everything the city manager suggests)

Sorry to hear about your difficulty, Steve, I was kinda looking forward to seeing you there and a get together at Bruffs, after !! I am taking my digital recorder with me, so I will try to give you all a report on the meeting !

create, I too am a Symbacort user, looks like we are all " breathing impaired " brothers and sisters that do have, perhaps, 1 0r two things in common !!

And for anyone else who is one of us " anonymous forum " uncredibles ", not incredibles " , I will be the " Crotchey," guy with the cane and bad walk and mean, Emporia destroying, crank in chief look about him !

I believe that, if I get to talk to the Candidates, my first question will be , 1. " What is the real reason you wish to be a City Commissioner ? "
2. Exactly how do you plan to turn Emporia around and make things better for all of the people of Emporia, you know those live in all sectors of Emporia ?

Well, folks I went to the MEET THE CANDIDATES " shindig " , the event began with the candidates taking to the podium and basically gave the audience a quick 2 minute explaination of what they felt their qualifications were for being a Commissioner and after about 20 or 30 minutes of this Introduction !

And then came the set down with the candidates and truely get to meet them ask questions and get a feel for what they really thought and what their plans were / are to bring Emporia back to a City of Emporia, " For All Emporians ! In other words a City that would be " ALL iNCLUSIVE ", meaning that it would be a city that " ALL THE PEOPLE " would be included, informed before decision were made final, and all citizens would have an equal voice in City Affairs and their ideas would be listened to and given some " creedence " ! At least the three candidates I got to talk to, gave me that impression and these same three also said that they believed pretty much as I did on the idea that every organization that now gets City appropriations handed to them to do with as they will, should not recieve any funds until they have and can prove that the funding that is given to them is being used as it is intended to be used and only after their idea has been submitted to the City Commission for approval by the City Commission and then only after it has been publicly put to all the people, for approval by the people as being a viable, non wasteful undertaking and expenditure and then the amount of money to be determined by an accurate estimate of the true cost of the idea/undertaking !!

I also asked the three I talked to, if they thoght they had the grit to say " NO " to unnecessary, unneeded expenditure if they were just " WANTED " by the few that are really in control of the City and that was not the City Commission or all the people! To my surprise all three said yes they would and what I mentioned as the real Control of the City, was indeed a large part of Emporias problems !!

All three of these people are now on my list of prospective " Vote for, for City Commissioner !!!

I asked, I believe it was Mrs. Havenhill of the Leage of Women Voters, and one of the COC members, I don' t remember which, if there was going to be another of these meetings and they both said " YES " , but a date and time would have to be worked out, as they are planning the same type of " MEET AND GREET " get together between the public and the BOE candidates, some time before the primary on March 1 ! The time and date will be anounced in advance and it will more than scheduled for the Commission candidates on 1 day and the BOE candidates on another day and time !

I told them that this was the best thing that could have happened to bring people together and discuss, face to face the problems, views, ideas between candidates and the people ! And they agreed !!

Oh, and one more thing all three candidates I talked to, thought that spending money for " Monuments, Stones, Rocks " was indeed a not needed waste of money, at this time !

I am planning to attend the next meetings also, as I still would like to get to talk to the rest of the candidates, both Commission and BOE and see what their views, plans and ideas are !!

Well thats, about all I have to report and I can say is, I thoroughly enjoyed it !!! But missed seeing Steve, Create and you other uncredible bloggers there ! Steve my friend, hope you are feeling better, and get much better soon !!

I will keep the names of the three I talked to, to myself, until I get a chance to talk to the others, at the next meeting, here their particular views, plans, etc.. Just to be fair to all the candidates !! However I really do like the three I talked to !!

Yes, my husband did graduate from University of Saigon as you say. In fact, he was a 3-timer, air winger. Twice at DaNang, and once right before Saigon was evacuated in order to tear down and pack up radar equipment.

I wish i had felt well enough to attend, but this weather is kicking my butt.

I am glad the "power brokers" as you call them, were there, as well as you. Everyone should attend these things if they can, because whoever is elected will be representing us all.

When it comes to voting everyone has the "power" and a voice, if they vote.

So consider yourself a "power broker" of the bloggers. Just don't get a swollen head that some power brokers have;>)

Boy, I did miss you guys at the meeting ! Hope you are all doing well ! And this weather is really affecting my old worn out, arthritic bones more than anything else !!

And to be truthful, I got a little uncomfortable and intimidated when I saw the power brokers in attendance, but my nervousness, quickly faded, when I told myself, hey , I as a voter and an Emporian, have just as much or possibly more at stake in this as anyone and I and the other non power brokers in attendance were representing the majority of Emporians such as you Steve, Create and all those non power brokers that could not attend and that fact gave me courage to not be intimidated, nervous or uncomfortabel . Thanks for thinking of me as a" power broker " for the bloggers. I certainly don' t consider myself as any kind of " power broker ", ust a concerned citizen / taxpayer , voter, who loves Emporia and just hates to see what is happening to " Her ", the city that is and its people !
