I believe I have the solution to the current hot controversy regarding the “monumental” welcome signs. One of the local sign companies should be “commissioned” (if I dare use that word) to manufacture four metal signs imprinted with the following: “Whoa, Dudes and Dudettes! Emporia Rocks Welcome you!”

Sign pollution in this town is a big problem. There are so many of them on our major streets it's virtually impossible to distinguish between the fluff and the regulatory signs. I vote we take down everything not required by state law.
