-Diana Nguyen, who received a $1,000 check for winning the 2011 Learning Quest School Essay Contest. State of Kansas Treasurer Ron Estes came to Emporia to present a check.
-Brianna Zweimiller, who was recognized as a Lyon County 4-H Outstanding Member. She received the Phyllis Webb Memorial Award.
-Emporia Policeman David Holmes, who was promoted to detective. He has been a patrolman for 18 years.
-Emporia Christian School, which built a new naturescape playground. The project was made possible by a $25,000 gift from an anonymous donor.
-Dan Rahe, who completed Navy basic training. He is currently a Hospital Corpsman and in March will attend Aerospace Medical Technician School in Pensacola, Fla.
-Former ESU football player Keith Maples, who will play football for the Cedar Rapids Titans Arena football team.
-Chad Carson, who is shopping his record “I’m Ready” to record companies.
-Hays House restaurant, which is working on rebuilding their kitchen after a fire destroyed it. The restaurant should be open by Valentine’s Day.
