Accident at US Hwy. 50 and Industrial

Friday, December 9, 2011

Vehicles lay wrecked in the intersection of Industrial Road and Highway 50 around noon on Friday.

"I had a three-car accident here at U.S. 50 and Industrial", said Lt. Jim Tilton of the Emporia Police Department. "One (male), the driver of the red vehicle, was life-flighted out. All the other five, six people in the other two vehicles had minor abrasions. They are not life threatening as far as I know.

"From what I can see is, the Buick was stationary waiting for the light to turn green. The white truck was in front of the Buick, and it was also stationary. The red vehicle that was southbound on Industrial, rearended the white truck...That’s my preliminary of what I found out from everybody."

The male victim was taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center by helicopter, said Capt. Rich Gould of the Emporia Fire Department.

He said he will provide more information this afternoon.

So... If the white truck was in front of the Buick, how was it rear ended by the red vehicle? Wouldn't it have hit the Buick first?

Red Veh -------> Buick -> White Truck [stop light]

I hope all are ok.

Whatever the order of impacts, this was a nasty accident and I hope and pray all involved are OK.

I saw a photograph of the pickup and I don't believe it was struck directly in the rear; the right rear wheel and tire are gone. A LEO's "struck in the rear" can mean anywhere aft of the centerline of the vehicle I suppose.

The photo shows that the right front wheel/tire appear to be damaged but I couldn't see any body damage to the front of the truck in the photograph.

Neither the Gazette or KVOE have a photo - I received it via a Facebook transfer. [I'd post the link but I'm not a Facebook user and I'm not sure I can post without showing the address of the person who sent it to me.]

Lifting up the family in heart and most fervent prayer. They say on facebook the possibility of a seizure as the reason, and that the driver of the red car has passed, leaving two young daughters.
