Olpe has new mayor following election

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

OLPE — Olpe has a new mayor after Olpe resident Keith Pimple received the most amount of votes via write-in.

Only one person filed for the Olpe mayoral race, Jim Fairbrother. Fairbrother received 64 votes.

Pimple received 133 out of the 168 write-in votes tallied following Tuesday’s election.

Paper ballots were being tallied late Tuesday but will not be counted in the official results until the Board of Canvassers meets at 9 a.m. Friday in the Lyon County Commission Chambers of the Lyon County Courthouse, 430 Commercial St.

Pimple, who has served on the Olpe City Council, said he did not officially conduct a write-in campaign.

“It was mostly word of mouth,” he said.

Pimple said he does plan on taking the position but needs time to sit down and think of a plan of attack.

Pimple talked about the direction Olpe is going in, including maintaining projects the town had going, maintaining the population, and attracting young people to town along with attracting small businesses.
