I'm sad that Clint's team and the owner were involved in these violations. But, I'm going to trust that Clint, personally, didn't know of or endorse the violations. However, I also feel that if this had been Dale Jr, or Kyle Busch, or Jeff Gordon, or several others - uh, probably wouldn't have heard a word about it.
I do feel the punishment was harsh & it virtually took Clint out of the running for the championship. And, like I said before, if this had been some "other" drivers, well, it probably wouldn't have been noted.

AND here's an article about Gordon and Johnson failing qualifying inspections in 2007.

I'm not much of a gearhead, and can't tell what they are saying they found to be wrong with the car, other than something about the rear end being outside of some tolerance or another, after they said it was just barely inside it last week. Anybody? What exactly wasn't okay with the car?

Yes, we may be saying that Clint's and RCR's penalties were unusually harsh.
Kyle Busch got docked 25 points for his Toyota's post-race inspection failure, and his crew chief was fined $5,000.
Busch story is at ESPN online:
http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/...
Since Clint's car, as of yesterday, was "within the box" of NASCAR requirements, it is remarkable to me that Clint lost 150 points and Shane Wilson got fined $150,000, plus a six-week suspension, in addition to other penalties. But I don't understand a lot of what NASCAR does; we watch races only because Clint is in them.

hey, kusports boy, before you traut of to your favorite beer joint to brag that you know it all as you usually do. Maybe you should read up on what the charges were and also learn the differance between PRE-race and POST race.
since you didnt read all of the story, the 1/16 of an inch was discovered AFTER the race on Sept 11, Not before the race.. Now just think that you, your Yugo, and your fat 300 lb girl friend decided to drive to you mommys house so she could do your laundry, say its 250 miles from your dorm room, DO YOU think that your car would be within 1/16 of an inch difference than when you left? I will say probably not, one pit stop to buy your girl friend a bucket of HOT chicken legs and her "a$$gas" will change your cars torrences too, also, besides smelling really bad,
Have a great evening there sports boy, and tell tell you momma HI.

@justaflushaway..
If his Yugo was worth 500 Gs, his fat girl friend was 100 "highly qualified engineers", his mommy's house was a state-of-the-art tech garage and instead of going for the laundry he was vying for a MULTI-million dollar paycheck and at that one Pitstop there are a couple hundred NASCAR officials whose sole responsibility it is to make sure all participants are playing by the same rules... Then after that little trip do you think that fraction of an inch is a big deal??
And we'll just leave the poop smell jokes to ourselves!!!
Have a good evening toiletboy!!

An appeal has been filed.Seems the car was good pre race inspection - and after being bumped by other cars after the race,then pushed by the tow truck- the spoiler sat .060 " higher on the left side than spec.

Don't be surprised if this happens to other drivers through the rest of the season.The officials have said they would do anything to keep a driver who hasn't won a race from winning the championship.It's all to create controversy! They must have been taking drama lessons from pro wrestling.I don't think it's going to be that big of a deal.

Post race it was ok? Then it was hauled to NC by whom? And it it was found to be out of spec by whom? Bubba politics at work, they don't like it when their poster boys are showed up. 1/60th of an inch would be how much lower with the fuel tank full of fuel instead of empty? Just saying...........
