Lyon County, the Flint Hills Community Health Center and Newman Regional Health, who are exploring ways to collaborate on providing health services.
- Drs. Wayne Anliker and Michael Reynolds, ophthalmologists who are putting to use the former Emporia Surgical Hospital, 1602 W. 15th Ave. The doctors will move their practice early in 2011. And kudos to John Mallon for brokering the deal.
- Abby Maycock, a 14-year-old Girl Scout who organized the Amend Girl Scout Center Blood Drive to hear her Silver Award.
- The Rotary Club of Emporia whose members are organizing the second annual LemurFest on Sept. 25. Proceeds will go to build a habitat at the David Traylor Zoo that will allow year-round viewing of the animals.
- The Flint Hills Technical College, which is celebrating increased enrollment.
- Kevin Rabas, an Emporia State assistant professor, who received a 2010 Kansas Notable Book Award last weekend.
- ESU volleyball senior setter Ting Liu who earned her second-straight Specialist of the Week Honor.
- Emporians for Drug Awareness, the Lee Beran Recreation Center and Lyon County Extension Office, which are organizing a Family Play Day on Sept. 26. The event coincides with Family Day, a national event that encourages families to share mealtime.
- Three area students who have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sarah C. Coulson and Bryanna N. Goza attend Emporia High School. Coleman L. Jackson attends Chase County High School.
- All of the volunteers who have worked to restore the Elmdale School and auditorium and organized events that the site for local youths.
- Students at Village Elementary School who learned about the “Star-Spangled Banner” during National Anthem Day on Tuesday. The event was organized by music teacher Mark Snider.
