Youth dove hunt
The Flint Hills Gobblers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will hold a youth dove hunt near Emporia on Saturday. Only a few spots remain. JAKES members can participate in the hunt for free; for non-JAKES members, participation will cost $10 and will include a JAKES membership. For more information, contact Gib Rhodes at (620) 437-2012.
Zumba at Rollers
Rollers is offering Zumba classes taught by certified instructor Amy Hayden three times per week. Classes are being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays at 9 a.m. For more information, log on to www.ksrollers.com or www.zumbawithamy.wordpress.org.
Fall basketball
The Spartan Fall Basketball League, available for students in Grades K-8, will run from Oct. 4-Nov. 11 at Emporia High School. Entry into the league will cost $40, with a $15 fee for each additional sibling. The 10-to-12-game season will be used for skill development and fun.

Fall girls basketball
The Lady Spartan Basketball Fall League, available for students in Grades K-8, will be played on weeknights in October and early November. Registration is required by Sept. 24. Forms are available at Emporia High and at elementary schools in Emporia. Cost is $40, with additional siblings costing $15. More information is available by calling coach Bill Nienstedt at 341-2365.
Triple Threat Basketball Academy
Rick Bloomquist will be holding a fall basketball academy for both boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade. The eight sessions will be held between Oct. 12 and Nov. 11. The sessions will be held at Emporia Middle School. The fee is $50 per player and includes a T-shirt. If a family enrolls one sibling, each additional sibling’s registration will cost $20. The first 85 players to sign up will receive a free basketball.
The registration deadline is Oct. 5, but late registrations will be accepted for a $5 fee. More information is available by calling Rick Bloomquist at 343-5102. Registrations may be sent to Coach Rick Bloomquist, Emporia Middle School, 2300 Graphic Arts Road, Emporia, KS 66801.
Fall swimming
Practices are underway for the Emporia Aquatic Club. The practices are designed for 6-18 year-olds and are held during the week at various times at Emporia High. A six-week development session will begin Sept. 13 and will be held from 5:30-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Fees vary based on level of participation and more information is available by calling Karen Hastert at 342-0664.
Topeka Heat tryouts
The Topeka Heat 18-UB girls fastpitch softball team is looking for players for the fall 2010 and summer 2011 seasons. The Heat will compete in league play as well as USSSA and ASA tournaments. Real Emporia open fields
Real Emporia Youth FC, a TRYSA-affiliated youth soccer organization, is holding open fields at Woodland Park on Wednesdays and Fridays. Ages 4 to 16; boys and girls welcome. Wednesday sessions begin at 6:30 p.m., and Friday sessions begin at 5:30 p.m. Woodland Park is located on Ninth Avenue between Woodland and Prairie.

Hunter education
An Internet-assisted hunter education course will be held on Oct. 9 at Camp Alexander. More information is available by calling Roger Wells at (620) 443-5834. Pre-registration is required, and is available by calling Wells.
Zumba classes
Family Martial Arts Center is currently offering Zumba classes. Instructor Jenna Ferguson is conducting the classes on Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. at the Family Martial Arts Center, 1009 West 12th Ave. in Emporia.
