Thursday, September 2, 2010
A Monday afternoon fight at Emporia High School did not result in any major injuries but it did land three juveniles in hot water.
According to an Emporia Police Department report, three students were involved in pushing, shoving and kicking. The fight took place inside the school at about 1:30 p.m.
The incident involved a 15 year-old and two 14 year-olds. The students had calmed down by the time police officers arrived at the school, said Emporia Police Sgt. Mark Summey.
The students were turned over to juvenile court services, Summey said.

One way to cut the budget and several jobs--install a paddle with holes in it. We used to call it the board of education--we learn real fast.

Take them down to the wrestling room, have them put on head gear and other PPE, close the doors and go back and check on them when the noise stops. Most likely they would leave the room on friendly terms and the problem between them would never come up again. Caveman mentality? Perhaps, but much more effective than slapping their wrists and putting them in paid time out.
Sending them to the Juve authorities did nothing but take them out of school, educate them that they arent going to jail for their actions as a juve, and drain the parent's bank account of money to pay for court proceedings and lawyers time. The checks Mom and Dad will write to pay fines for the matter will have zero effect on changing the kid's behaviors.
