Seki Anderson doesn’t follow some of the recent trends of Emporia High tennis.
Coach Melinda Flohr said her team is often made up of players who join the team after their freshman year, athletes with experience in other sports but little actual tennis experience. For example, the 2010 squad has 18 juniors and only five freshmen.
Unlike a lot of her teammates, Anderson has joined the team as a freshman and has taken tennis lessons in her past. Flohr still has some time to tinker with her lineup, given that the first varsity match is not until Sept. 9 at Spring Hill. But Flohr said Anderson has made a strong case for one of the varsity singles positions once competition begins.
