Celebrating one year

Thursday, September 2, 2010

One local salon is celebrating a year in their new location and a year of being environmentally friendly.

Becky Peters, along with her parents, Jim and Cookie Price, opened up Envi Salon, at its new location a year ago. Envi, 2607 W. 18th Ave., is short for environment, Peters said. Peters said the salon prides itself in being eco-friendly. The remodel of the building was focused on that. The salon recycles, used eco-friendly paint, eco-friendly lighting and use eco-friendly products when possible. The salon uses Pravana, which is a botanical hair coloring product.

“It’s one of the more eco-friendly lines available,” Peters, who has been in the hair styling business for 13 years, said.

The salon also offers Aquage, Nioxin, Redken and Redken for men product lines. Services offered include cuts, colors, perms, manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails, wedding parties and prom styles and body waxing.

Peters is excited about a new service the salon will be offering — a gel that can be used in place of acrylic nails. The polish comes in jail form and can last two to three weeks, Peters said.

“It’s an alternative to acrylic nails,” she said.

Envi has eight staff members, seven of which came over when Peters and her parents purchased Shear Designers. The staff includes:

• Peters: hair, nails, pedicures and waxing.

• Nicole Anderson, hair, nails, pedicures and body waxing

• Pam Carter, nails

• Ron Gilligan, stylist

• Joan Williams, stylist

• Kathy Frizell, stylist

• Janice Jaggard, stylist

• Jane Mohling, stylist

The polish comes in jail form? Does it include hand-cuffs or something? An orange jumpsuit?
