Vote for Karr
Becky Catlin
Friday, October 29, 2010
I am writing in support of Jerry Karr for Kansas Senate, 17th District. Jerry Karr is a man of integrity, high morals, well educated, and truly concerned for the people in our whole district.
When I first moved to this area 20-plus years ago, Jerry Karr was serving our district as Senator. I was very impressed with Jerry’s hard work and knowledge. He had a genuine concern about what was happening in our state and the effect it would have on the people in our area.
Jerry Karr listened to all people, and took the time to let them know what was happening in Topeka. He was never too busy to talk to his constituents. He was a friend to farmers & ranchers, business owners, educators, senior citizens, as well as being an advocate for all children.
When I heard Jerry was interested in serving our district again as Senator, I was very pleased. I know he will once again put the citizens of our district first in all his decisions. That’s just the way he is. A choice for Jerry Karr on Tuesday is a choice for a better Kansas. Please join me at the polls on Tuesday with a vote for Jerry Karr.

Good luck in the election Mr. Longbine. After I received Mr. Karr's mudslinging mailers, he most definitely will not get my vote. I thought he would have enough class to keep it clean, but I was wrong. Just goes to show that Mr. Karr lacks the character for this public office. I have lost all respect for him. I am just sick of politicians lying and distorting the truth to try and gain favor from those that don't know the facts. Shame on you Mr. Karr...shame on you!!!

I can assume then that you feel that way whether the miscreant candidate be Democrat, Republican, or Independent?.....or is it more likely that you believe that it is only candidates that you are voting against that lie, distort the truth, and try to gain favor from those that don't know the facts. After all, anybody that agrees with you must know the facts...right?

Is Karr affiliated with a political party? I've looked at all his ads, and it just doesn't say ... I wonder why that is.

Joe,
Pointing out differences is not mudslinging or distorting the truth (if it is the truth) which in this case it is.
Snow,
Party never matters except to those who want to vote against a party.

So ... Does Karr belong to a political party that he is ASHAMED OF?
Why won't he even tell the voters who he is?
Shady, right off the bat?
Are you a party member, Jerry?
Which party?

Maybe Jerry believes there are more important reasons for voting for or against somebody than whether they have an "R" or a "D" after their name. I would rather vote for some body for what they stood for rather than if they passed some litmus test.

I actually believe Longbine is a fine fellow and would vote for him as readily as I would for Karr except for one thing. I'm not sure Longbine will be able to buck this blind loyalty to party that so many have enough to oppose Sam Brownback....whom I would not vote for if he had the entire alphabet after his name.
So I will be voting for the candidate that will be most able to oppose that loony tune...and that will be Jerry Karr.

What has Karr said that was mudslinging? Seems to me the race has been pretty civilized from both sides.

He presented reasons why voters should vote for him over his opponent. In today' political jungle that is mud-slinging if you are for the opponent. Of course if you support the candidate then he is just exposing the other ones lies. What a joke....but look how many people suck it all up.

I still wonder if Jerry belongs to a party ... just can't find any mention of a party affiliation in any of his ads ....

Karr's people were going to homes where registered voters had not yet voted, and urging them to vote.
I know it's public information, but I am uncomfortable with people coming to my door, addressing me by name, and saying they have a record to say I have not yet voted. Very Big Brotherish to me. I don't like it.
If the Karr people want to urge me to vote, don't come to my door. Just take out an ad on the radio or in the paper. If I were going to vote for him on Tuesday, I have changed my mind.

Hey, 'create', when Jerry's people came to your door, did they mention whether he belongs to a political party?
I've been trying ever so hard to find out, but it never says in his ads. I'm afraid maybe he belongs to some party that he's ashamed of, or thinks voters will be repelled if he dares mention its name.
I sure want to find out before I vote ... what party does Jerry Karr belong to?

I would love to be able to answer your persistent question. My problem is I don't care enough about what party he belongs to to invest any effort into finding out. Who cares....Vote for the person.....not the party.
Once you get into the voting booth (if you haven't already been), you will see the big "D" after his name so those that are so inclined to vote only for who their party tells them to can adjust their vote accordingly. Leaving it off the campaign literature was a statement of the principle I expressed above.
Of course you already knew that and are just pushing you own agenda with your bogus curiosity.

All I know is that I got like 2 things from Longbine in the mail each day for like 4 days straight. Very annoying. Your onslaught of junk mail won't win you my vote! Get the word out, sure, but why pester people with daily mailings?
I only got one thing from Karr. He seems more reasonable and respectful. Karr doesn't rely on party affiliation for his votes. You don't have to be of the same party to vote for them, you know.

Gawrsh! If Jerry Karr is really a Democrat, I wonder why he didn't just tell us that in his ads? I was quite confused for the longest time.
Now that I know Jerry is a Democrat, I'm still confused why he didn't tell us. I don't know if I can trust a guy who won't just put the facts out there for us, and stand up for who and what he is. It's almost like he was trying to pull something over on us, even before getting in office. Almost ...

You know a part of me wants to just keep this up with you all night if necessary But another part tells me that to do so I would make myself look as foolish as snow looks and I damned sure wouldn't want to do that. So you just continue making a fool of yourself and proving to everybody that you have nothing of value to contribute and I will just watch you from the sidelines.
So go ahead and keep making yourself look like a childish little kid trying to get attention.

Jerry Karr has been the Democratic party leader for so long in this area that most us would just assume you already knew, Anyone who has volunteered to put their name on the ballot under the D ticket has benefited from his patience and experience in maneuvering through the obstacle course/endurance race called a campaign. A big thank you to all of the candidates and their families for putting their personal lives on hold to give us freedom of choice tomorrow!

For me, this is going to be a tough decision on who to vote for. I know both candidates, and have for most of my life. Both have adequate political experience, Karr the most for the position. Longbine has come up thru the political ranks, the next natural step is Topeka for him. Both are businessmen, Karr a farmer and rancher like his forefathers, Longbine runs a car dealership, also a multi-generational family business. Both are very approachable, but I'd have to give the personality prize to Karr as he is much more genuine. Karr is pro-agriculture and would work to preserve farming interests. Longbine is more progressive and big business minded. I can see him pushing legislation that would specifically benefit businesses like his own. Both in other words, have personal agendas in mind. They both represent the same kind of politics we as Americans continually elect and send to both the Capital at Topeka and Washington DC.

Good post neighbor and sunshine. Now that is the way to approach any election. Look at both candidates and try your best to understand where they are coming from....and which direction they will likely want to go. Consider everything you can about them.....not just the letter behind their name on the ballot (that one's for you snow).
Both of these men are fine candidates and we will be well served by either. A truly difficult choice. My decision finally came down to only one thing and it had more to do with the likely outcome of another race than anything about either of these men.
I know we all have a tendency to vote for the "R" or the "D" more often than not. There is nothing wrong with that as a general guide to preference. But when it becomes a blind obedience to choices made in some smokey office in Chicago, or some board room in Wichita it goes directly against the reason we have elections in the first place.
Hell, even the Soviet Union had elections...and one political party. Your choice was yea. Some people seem to want to treat our democracy the same way.

I vote for the best candidate in a race in my opinion. They are the one that I feel will best serve the population as a whole, the one who isn't a career politician there serving only the interests of big lobbying firms, the one I feel is honest and sincere in their campaign approach. I tend to vote against mud slingers, those that base their campaign on what their opponent has done wrong rather than what they plan on doing themselves. I don't expect many good results out of candidates like that. Obama is a fine example of that kind of politician. Have you seen much beneficial change with his administration? Has he accomplished anything that he said Bush had done wrong? Look back at his credentials and experience folks, you voted in a wind bag Lawyer who only wanted to make history being the first Black? President. Once he accomplished that, he went into lame duck mode and is taking advantage of your tax dollars vacationing all over the world. I'd almost wager he'll decline a second term. He will make millions of dollars after he leaves office writing and speaking about being the first. He is set for life. Nothing irritates me more than to listen to someone ranting and raving about how they dislike what's happening in politics, and go on to blame it on a certain candidate because they are Rep or Dem, they dress wrong, or have a bad hair style etc. Worse yet is a whiner who goes on to tell me they didn't vote "Because it wouldn't make a difference" or "It would be a waste of time!" I truly believe after speaking with alot folks around me in life and at work after the elections, that the court House and the smoking ban both would have been voted down had people gotten out and voted that were against both items. I've not missed a vote since I turned 18 many years ago. With advanced voting, mail in ballots etc, there is no excuse any longer.
