For decades, Emporia’s Granada Theatre, which was originally opened in 1929, has been said to be haunted. Thanks to an extensive investigation by a local paranormal team, the public will get a look at evidence that points to a haunting in the theater.
Men of Mystery, a local paranormal research team, investigated the Granada Theatre for the third time Sunday evening in pursuit of concrete evidence that the theater is haunted. The team consists of four investigators, Kevin Dobson, Colby Dobson, Ron Ziglar and Bryant Duenas.
The public will have an opportunity to view the evidence gathered by the team at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Granada Theatre, 807 Commercial St. before the showing of the movie “Poltergeist.” The cost is $5.
Kevin Dobson said he has been interested in the paranormal for many years. When he and his brother, Colby Dobson, were young and living on Merchant Street, they heard activity in the house. Some of the activity included a voice screaming Kevin Dobson’s name and the bed would shake, he said. Later, in 2007, Kevin Dobson said he had brain surgery and he’s had more paranormal experiences following the surgery.
The team, which they decided to call Men of Mystery, got together about two months ago. Each team member has had his own sets of experiences. They decided to investigate the Granada after they came into contact with the theater’s executive director, Jessica Buchholz, through Facebook.
“We kind of ran with it,” Kevin Dobson said, adding that any time they can feature a local historical attraction such as the Granada, it gives the place good publicity. “This is our thing. So many people want to prove that it doesn’t exist, we want to prove it does exist.”
Buchholz said there have been many stories and many experiences — some of which are her own — in the theater. The theater ran continuously until the 1980s, when it closed down. It sat unused for many years until its restoration and reopening in 2008. Buchholz said local resident SC Dixon had experiences in the theater when he had his photo studio in what is now the coffee shop next door to the theater.
She’s also had her own experiences over the past year and a half that she’s worked there including doors opening and closing and lights turning back on after she’s closed the building down for the evening.
“I’ve never been uncomfortable or threatened,” she said.
To investigate on Sunday, the Men of Mystery set out with an assortment of equipment. It included EMF meters, which measure electromagnetic fields, lasers, digital voice recorders, digital cameras, 33-mm cameras, camcorders and night vision attachments for cameras and camcorders.
The team’s work investigation of the Granada has paid off handsomely, Kevin Dobson said.
“This has been the Holy Grail of evidence,” he said.
The team has heard doors shutting and recorded voices with the digital voice recorders. They also were able to communicate with a potential spirit using their EMF meter. Also, items in the theater have been moved with no one around, such as toilet paper and a key that was tossed in a room during an investigation.
Colby Dobson added that there seems to be more than one spirit in the building.
Kevin Dobson talked about the difference between residual hauntings and intelligent hauntings. Residual hauntings often are things such as doors shutting and footsteps and are generated by leftover energy that has accumulated. Intelligent hauntings have a purpose and often communicate intelligently.
Unlike many of the large ghost hunting shows seen on television, the Men of Mystery team does not provoke potential spirits. The team is only there for a short period of time and often it’s the people that are left in the building long-term that have to deal with the aftereffects of provoking, Dobson said.
The team does, however, try to debunk evidence before calling it credible evidence. Much of the evidence gathered at the Granada could not be debunked, they said.
But the Granada hauntings aren’t malicious, the team said.
“What we have found here is a practical jokester,” Kevin Dobson said.
- Men of Mystery are looking for sponsors to help purchase equipment for future investigations. The group also is looking for houses or businesses to investigate, and they do not charge for investigations. The team can be reached by e-mail at paranormal_kansas@hotmail.com; on Facebook: Men of Mystery (M.O.M.) or by calling Kevin Dobson at (620) 803-2020.

Spirits and demons and Lilin are real. They are the offspring of Lilith and Adam created when Lilith seduced Adam against his will. Lilith bore him many demons and spirits and Lilin all of which survive to this very day.
These four amateurs are placing their souls in real danger of eternal damnation! They should leave "ghost busting" to the ancient Sages who make use of the Secret Knowledge of the Lesser Palaces to manipulate demons and spirits and Lilin. At the very least, these four amateurs need to learn the following incantation for self protection:
lilith, abitu, abizu, hakash, avers hikpodu, ayalu, matrota. These names cause Lilith to lose her power.

Spirits and demons aren't real. Believing that someone can be dead and still conscious at the same time is silly. The evidence shows us that our consciousness, personality, memories and everything that makes us who we are is part of a complex arrangement of neurological connections and electrical states in your brain. Your consciousness only exists within the confines of your brain . When you die, your consciousness cannot separate itself from that neural network and become a "soul". When you die and all brain activity stops, your consciousness dies along with it. It doesn't just float and waft around waiting to create new life or assume a new body.
Does anyone really believe the soul of Patrick Swayze is out walking around? You might think "Ghost" was a good movie, but it wasn't based on a true story.

After God created Adam, who was alone, He said, 'It is not good for man to be alone.' He then created a woman for Adam, from the earth, as He had created Adam himself, and called her Lilith. Adam and Lilith immediately began to fight. She said, 'I will not lie below,' and he said, 'I will not lie beneath you, but only on top. For you are fit only to be in the bottom position, while I am to be the superior one.' Lilith responded, 'We are equal to each other inasmuch as we were both created from the earth.' But they would not listen to one another. When Lilith saw this, she pronounced the Ineffable Name and flew away into the air.
Adam stood in prayer before his Creator: 'Sovereign of the universe!' he said, 'the woman you gave me has run away.' At once, the Holy One, blessed be He, sent these three angels Senoy, Sansenoy, and Semangelof, to bring her back.
Said the Holy One to Adam, 'If she agrees to come back, what is made is good. If not, she must permit one hundred of her children to die every day.' The angels left God and pursued Lilith, whom they overtook in the midst of the sea, in the mighty waters wherein the Egyptians were destined to drown. They told her God's word, but she did not wish to return. The angels said, 'We shall drown you in the sea.’
'Leave me!' she said. 'I was created only to cause sickness to infants. If the infant is male, I have dominion over him for eight days after his birth, and if female, for twenty days.’
When the angels heard Lilith's words, they insisted she go back. But she swore to them by the name of the living and eternal God: 'Whenever I see you or your names or your forms in an amulet, I will have no power over that infant.' She also agreed to have one hundred of her children die every day. Accordingly, every day one hundred demons perish, and for the same reason, we write the angels' names on the amulets of young children. When Lilith sees their names, she remembers her oath, and the child recovers.
Adam and Eve committed the original sin. Not Lilith. Adam and Eve eventually died but Lilith still lives.
Ancient Sages know this story. Modern Ghost Busters should learn it too. :-)

I didn't realize I responded to a hardcore Christian. I also didn't know "God" wanted 100 children to die every day because Adam's girlfriend refused to let Adam be on top. Sounds like a real jerk to me.
Also, if it was just Adam and Lilith, how did they even know anything about Egyptians drowning? Egyptians couldn't have been around until Adam produced many many generations of offspring.
And how could Adam's children have had offspring, if Adam had two sons? Was the original sin by any chance incest? There's no way we are all descendants of Adam and Eve, and there's no afterlife. Like I said earlier, once your brain shuts down, your soul isn't going to jump out and float around. The afterlife is a story made up to ease peoples fear of death.
I don't want to turn this into a debate on religion, I just hate when people try to use the bible to prove I'm wrong. The bible is a collection of books written by people. Just because someone wrote it thousands of years ago doesn't make it true.

Oh and my post earlier about "They should do this closer to Christmas than Halloween" was meaning maybe if they hunted for ghosts around Christmas someone could finally find Jesus, not so people don't think it's a spooky Halloween gig. The difference between believing in ghosts or not depends on if you can realize where the spooky sounds are coming from. A ghost didn't just jump out of a dead persons body and start haunting people. Do I really have to explain this?!

Then came my 54th birthday. Now I don't believe in afterlife or spirits...and I damned sure don't believe in Ouija Boards. But I sure remembered that board and that answer. Only Naughty Children See Spooks on Halloween by Winifred Sackville Stoner, Jr.
Witches and goblins, spooks and elves,
With sprites and gnomes from elf-land delves,
Tonight are flying here and there,
Yes, up and down and everywhere.
For this one night in all the year
They rule the earth and bring great fear
To all the naughty little boys
Who tease good girls and break their toys.
These spooks they also make girls sad
When they are selfish, cross and bad;
So when it's dark, bad boys and maids,
They see these awful fearsome shades,
And that is why with covered heads,
They trembling lie in their warm beds.
But even there they goblins see,
Spooks and gnomes, and all that be
Abroad upon weird Halloween
When all the wizards may be seen
By naughty kids and grown-up folks
Who like to play most wicked jokes.
But good young girls and gentle boys,
The kids who are their mothers' joys
They like the dark just as the light,
For spooks never come within their sight,
And in their dreams they lovely elves
Show them bright scenes from fairy delves.
So, if tonight you are afraid
Of any spook or any shade,
We'll know you are a naughty child,
So cross and wilful, rude and wild.

The only thing I wonder is, How is it we have never heard about the Emporia hauntings until now ?Especially only after all of the " Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, Paranormal States, etc., T.V. programs that have recently turned up on the " Boob Tube " !
Too much T.V. watching, mmmmmmm, could be
And now the local ghost hunters are asking for donations to fund their ghost hunting !
I believe that I will start taking donations for a new house for " methusla" and I can guarantee that it will be haunted by the very thankful spirit of " Methusla, himself " !

Actually meth head there are several published ghost stories of the Emporia area, such as the country club, the White house, and SC Dixon had his granada experience published...
Also donations are for high priced equipment, we do not ask for any pay or compensation from the people or businesses we investigate, thus we are looking for partners that are willing to sponser and in return recieve publicity.
For example the "Ghost Hunters" are sponsered by Roto Rooter, it makes me sad that so many people are out there ready to instantly discredit anything that they have never experienced themselves!
October 25, 2010 at 12:15 a.m. ( permalink | suggest removal )
methusla (anonymous) says...
Well, EPR(a$)S,
First of all, the " Ghost Hunters " is totally funded and produced by the two men who own their own " Roto-Rooter " business and do not ask " publicly, on theprogram " for donations to buy equipment and more than likely receive payment from the entertainment company that happens to " air/carry " the program on the T.V., therefore they don' t have to ask for " public donations " , and the same can be said for any and all such programs that are on the " Boob Tube ". Have you actually heard any of these people on these " Shows " ask for any donations from the public " Viewers " of these shows .
Secondly, if you are going to get testy and insulting toward anyone who may doubt your " validity " or expertise or the sudden appearance of " The Mystery Men " and start calling anyone who doubts you, your abilities and the idea that ghosts exist will not lend any credibility to your endeavor .
Thirdly, I do not use nor have never used " meth " or any other illicit drug, so have never had " visions " or heard " voices ", maybe thats why I am skeptical. Therefore I am not a meth head ! But you on the other hand !!!!!
Fourth, Emporia needs " Jobs ", not Ghost Hunters ! Also if you want/need money for equipment, get a job and work for it or contact any of the media corps and try and sell them on your abilities, expertise and evidence and backing you with funding and making you well paid T.V./entertainmnt celebrities !
You think you know about Emporia being " Haunted " ! You have not been around long enough to know anything about Emporia !

Many people who see outlines of people and hear voices are mild schizophrenics. If you had brain surgery, and then your hallucinations and delusions have gotten worse, (or your paranormal ability has gotten better), you should really see a psychiatrist. There are medicines that can help you, especially while you're still young. My grandma was schizophrenic and used to talk to imaginary things all the time, but she was 60 something before she was diagnosed.

Wow, you all really need to lighten up a bit! EPRS - I applaud what you're doing, and actually, I wish I could join in! I've always been interested in the paranormal and have experienced many things myself. There are just too many unexplained experiences out there for them ALL to just be "your mind playing tricks on you".
EPRS - The fact that you try to debunk a lot of it before considering it credible evidence says a lot about how seriously you take it, and that's very respectable. Chevy_Guy, while its true that people with schizophrenia may see and/or hear things that aren't really there, the fact that they HAVE schizophrenia is debunking their experience. So how do you explain it when someone who does not have a mental illness continually witnesses paranormal activity in one location (at home, work, etc.) but not elsewhere?
Oh well, a skeptic will always come up with some explanation, no matter how ridiculous, for anything out of the ordinary that they may have heard or seen.

What's the difference between believing in ghosts and believing in God? Many of you people that are claiming this idea to be "fraud" probably go to church every Sunday without questioning the validity of the preacher's claims. Here's what I see when I compare the two:
People claim to "hear" God or "feel" his presence. Some claim the same experience for ghosts.
The church, who supposedly are bringing you the "facts" about God, want your donations. The same can be said about these ghost hunters.
There is no clear cut evidence that God exists; he hasn't made his existence known. Same for ghosts; it's all speculation and theories.
I've never met God and I've never met a ghost. I have no reason to believe in either of them, but I'm open to both possibilities. I've seen some strange things that can't be explained, so I don't see why would shouldn't search for the answers. Maybe these guys will find a ghost and have him do a news interview tomorrow. Maybe God will come down from the clouds and introduce himself. Anything is possible, so why doubt one fairy tale more than the other?

let_get_reasonable,
Not everyone with schizophrenia knows they have it. There is still no test that can tell for sure whether or not a person is schizophrenic. Just because a person hasn't been diagnosed doesn't make their hallucinations credible. The fact that his hallucinations have gotten worse since his brain surgery says something. I'm not a doctor and maybe nobody on the EPRS team is schizophrenic, but lets be reasonable, ghosts and goblins aren't real.

lets_get_reasonable (anonymous) says...
Then how do you explain ghosts, clear as day, showing up in pictures? Do you really think that every single picture that anyone has ever caught of a suspected ghost has been photoshopped? How about an object moving on its own, and furthermore, proving that there were no animals, people, or open windows causing drafts to make the object move? How about a digital thermometer showing sudden changes in temperature in only one spot while the rest of the room is the same? It's so typical of a skeptic to automatically suggest some sort of mental illness or other medical condition when referring to a person who has witnessed something they can't explain.
And Henry, I respect your comment. I too wonder how people can be skeptic of ghosts or life-after-death but are not skeptic of God. I especially respect that you are open to the possibility of these things, instead of just stating that neither exists as if it were fact.

Henry,
The difference between believing in ghosts and believing in God is believing in ghosts doesn't hurt anyone around you.
Believing in God means believing in killing women, children, and infants (1 Samuel 15:3), making women submissive and obedient (1 Timothy 2:12) & (Ephesians 5:22), discriminating against gays (Romans 1:27), endorsing slavery (1 Peter 2:18), and the list goes on.
Here is my personal favorite ""Happy those who seize your children and smash them against a rock." (Psalm 137:9)"

No, Chevy, believing all that just means you believe in the Bible. You don't have to believe in the two together. Just like me for example... I believe in God but I sure as heck don't believe in the Bible. It's a book of contradictions, and can't be trusted because it has been revised so many times. If that book is the "truth" then why would it need revised at all?
So actually, the difference in believing in ghosts and believing in God, is simply that people have been taught that God is good and people feel comforted by the idea of him... whereas ghosts get a bad rep because they scare the living daylights out of people! =)

I only suggested schizophrenia because he is seeing and hearing things repeatedly, not because there was one thing that happened that he couldn't explain. Most all of the ghost pictures have been debunked. It's usually the camera flash or something on the camera lens that makes a ghost "appear". A speck of dust or moisture on the lens will make ghostly images appear. I've never seen anyone use a digital thermometer to look for a sudden change in temperature. That would actually be interesting to see. What type of digital thermometer are these hunters using? Would they see the same thing happen if they were using military infrared? I don't know how trusty a Wal-Mart digital thermometer is.

Just as I am skeptical that the " Shroud of Turin " is the actual burial shroud of Jesus Christ and that one is still trying to be proved or disproved to everyones satisfaction

Very well stated. I, like you, don't believe in either. But if someone is willing and able to look into the possibility......what's to hurt? They might actually find something to make me change my mind. But even if they don't it's still not my place to ridicule their efforts
As to their asking for donations...whether I donate or not is still up to me. A lot of people ask me for donations. A few I respond to....most I don't. But the choice is mine. So again what the problem with asking. Hell I might even donate a couple of bucks to methusla's new house fund just for the sheer joy of seeing his "very thankful spirit" dancing about the place.

If your not seeing ghosts, keep up the good work! jmo

Chevy I was the only one who mentioned the temperature readings, and that was because I've seen it used a lot on several of the paranormal investigator shows. I've seen the thermal imaging used as well, and of course most of the time they get nothing but when they do it's fascinating. Sometimes the investigators on the shows, especially Ghost Adventures, can be a little over-dramatic to the point where I call b.s. It's always easy to be skeptical of a tv show... no way to tell if they are faking it or not! Some investigation groups are pretty legitimate though, like T.A.P.S.

O.K. lets get one thing clear ! First of all I never mentioned or called anyone of the EPRS members any names or such ! However when the EPRS or a member there of, responded to my post, he/she/they referred to me as " meth head ", which I did not appreciate in the least.
And excuse me if I believed your
mention of seeking " Partners " to mean your need for " Investors " to help with the cost of the equipment you wish you had and wish to purchase, but cannot do so on your own without help ( Donations ) of some kind.
So, I will ask this, Is your term " Partner ", just a cute way of saying " Investor " ?
You see, responding to people by name calling is not the way to " endear " anyone to your cause/endeavor, but is a certain way to alienate anyone to you, your cause or endeavor !

I understand hat you are saying methusla. One person doesn't speak for the whole team. I am sorry for whatever was said. We don't need an investor, donations, partners or whatever else you want to call it. A comment for a sponsor was said put in the paper and that was all. We don't need money from the public like i said before. I pay for all the equipment out of my own pocket that i work for. It was not meant to sound like we are needing you to give us your money and pay for our funding. All the video we made for granada was paid by us. All the equipment from the ir cameras we use to the batteries we paid for. As far as you being called that name I am sorry. I agree that name calling is not the way to go about things. But please stop acting like we are wanting everyone to send us their money. That is not what we are wanting.

I would like to wish you all the luck in the world !

Thank you for your kind words methusla. I once again am sorry for what someone on our team said to you earlier. It's not professional and makes EPRS look like fools. As for what you said everyone has their own opinions and can speak them as they wish. Thanks again.

Methusla I apologize for the comment "meth head" i wasn't actually calling you a meth user, I just read your name real fast and responded to what you were saying... as the team can tell you I am the hot headed one and get frustrated a little faster than everyone else, so I do owe you that apology... I would like to say on the other hand if that comment offended you than you might want to think about the things you say before you post it as well... husker1 is what I consider the leader of the group, and as you have read from him we are just a bunch of guys doing what we love to do...

We did find some things at the granada. Is it going to frighten any one?? NO. most of it is voices that are not ours and a few videos of things we believe not to be natural. The voice we got...I had to clean noise out of the clips and amplify the whispers alot. But I stand firm that they are real and I am very picky at what we decided to use as evidence of something in the granada. I hope everyone who comes out will enjoy what we have put together.

The cameras we use are not like what you see on t.v.. They are basically a sony handycam with a ir light extension on it. Night vision basically. I just want everyone to understand that it's not going to be like an episode of ghost hunters or ghost adventures. We pieced together the clips that we think is paranormal (ghost) lol..or something we could not explain. The voices are not our own that we captured. They are hard to understand for it will be a treat for the skeptics..lol. So basically we did the best we could with the equipment that we have right now.

delostboy, I hope I didn't start off on the wrong foot with you. Let me start all over. Hi, I'm REWBA. It is short for relax everything will be alright. I have an old soul that's been around the block more than once. I remember all the good ole days...One lifetime my father Aaron had convinced the people from far and wide to bring their finest calf to his alter where my brothers and I would prepare it for the sacrifice. That was a pretty good gig I'll tell ya. We always had the best BBQ in the land. Then there was this other lifetime when some jerk thought he was the King of the Jews. He was found guilty. That time I was in the service of the Roman Emperor and they put me on guard duty at the jerks crucifixion. He was taking way too long to die and I had a date so....whoops! I never could get that blood off my lance. Yes! I have many stories to tell. I hope to hear some of yours. I guess I don't really have a religion and no, god didn't tell me to say those things. I think my house is haunted and the ghosts get on my computer when I'm outside smoking cigarettes. I don't think they like me.

EPRS,
I've read similar findings. I've also read that the majority of the skeptics are people who are afraid of the unknown. They are fast to say it doesn't exsist and faster in trying to denounce it. It is truely amazing how "in the box" people are ... If people would just pay attention more to the world around them and get "out of the box" . They would find that science and religion are both discovering previously "unknown" things. It is only human arrogance to believe that the animals(including the human race) that inhabit this ball in space would think what you see is what you get ... So to believe in something that is "unknown". Is indeed , to believe in it all ....!

Love this computer --
"According to Hebrew lore, Lilith was the original partner of Adam, the world's first man. Lilith and Adam argued -- some legends say she was too proud to submit to Adam's wishes -- and Lilith departed Eden, where she was succeeded as Adam's mate by Eve. In other ancient legends Lilith is considered a demon or a mother of demons, and is supposed to haunt desolate places.
The name of Lilith is mentioned only once in the Bible, in Isaiah 34:14, where she is listed along with hyenas and jackals as those who dwell in the ruins of God-forsaken Edom. Late in the 20th century she became a symbol of female empowerment, giving her name to Lilith Fair, the travelling women's music festival organized by Sarah McLachlan."

This is not a ghost story, and it is probably not even paranormal but it happened to me yesterday morning and I think it is interesting. I hope I don't bore you all to tears with it. It is every bit true.
I was picking up a few items at Country Mart South early in the morning and the woman at the register and I were jokingly exaggerating to each other about what a wonderful day it was. As we did a quote attributed to Chief Joseph of the Nez Pierce Indian tribe popped into my mind....."It is a good day to die."
I didn't mention that at all to the lady at the register but as I walked to the truck I thought...."I hope that wasn't a premonition.
Twenty minutes later I am at home and a take a bite of food. A tiny piece got sucked down my wind pipe and stuck. It didn't affect my breathing at all but it made me cough.....and cough....and cough. Eventually the coughing became uncontrollable and spasmodic. None of this was playing well with my damaged heart.
Now I am setting on the edge of the bed coughing uncontrollably......my heart pounding....severe pain in my chest and left arm....pain across my back......fighting to breath and sweat pouring off me. This is the good day that I die.
Then my thoughts turned to what was going to happen to my dogs. The coughing started to subside....eventually my heart got itself back in the ballpark....and I went on with the rest of my day.
This is an absolutely true story that probably means nothing....but it sure got this old f@#t's attention. Thanks for letting me bore you with it.

I'm surprised people haven't heard the story of Adams first wife. Almost every mother on the planet sings a lullaby to their infants. The word lullaby is derived from the Hebrew words Lilith Abi which means Lilith go away.

Earlier one of the stories looked like this: http://i.imgur.com/J0RcT.png and now it's just blank? Is it because my comment got deleted or something and now I can't view or add comments on those stories anymore?

The comments were deleted for everybody because a few think it is more important for them to shoot off at the mouth than it is for others to have a chance to post their views. It happens every time there is a topic that allows people to get righteously indignant and prove to everybody how morally superior they are.
