ADMIRE — For residents of Admire, the town that lost its school because of budget cuts, the Admire Fall Festival on Saturday held a special meaning.
The festival was held in the former Admire School, now the Admire Community Building and in the city’s park. Events included a 5K walk-run, an 8- and 20-mile bike race, basketball, children’s games, living history demonstrations, youth performers, a supper, a Northern Heights High School Class of 1970 supper gathering and a host of other events.
Admire resident Kim Cullor was running the children’s games during Saturday’s event.
“It means a lot,” she said. “Not a lot happens in Admire anymore. It’s nice to see a lot of activities in town especially since they closed our school down. You used to see buses coming and going. You don’t see anything anymore.”
