A proposal by Emporia State University to offer a program at Johnson County Community College to produce more teachers was tabled this week after University of Kansas officials said the community college is in their service area.
During a meeting of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Kansas Board of Regents on Tuesday the committee was asked to put ESU’s request on the regents’ agenda for consideration during its monthly meeting later this month, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.
The proposal would allow ESU to offer a bachelor of science degree in education with an elementary education major at JCCC. ESU would provide faculty on the campus of JCCC to complete the degree work, the Journal-World reported. The program would be aimed at students in Johnson County who, because of finances, couldn’t move to Emporia and take their coursework in Emporia.
Because several questions came up during the discussion, the committee decided to keep the issue off the agenda to allow interested parties to get together and discuss the matter further.
“Emporia State University is working closely with the Kansas Board of Regents on the approval process for the elementary education program at Johnson County Community College,” said Bill Noblitt, director of marketing and media relations for ESU, said on Wednesday afternoon. “We want to make this a convenient opportunity for education students and citizens in that area.”
ESU has a similar program at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

If KU doesn't block any better than their football team, ESU should not have any problem.

I despise KU. So they're complaining that JCCC is in their service area, huh? Well, so is KCK Community College. Not to mention the fact that ESU already has a Metro Learning Center in the KC area.
KU doesn't give a darn about serving students--they just want to maintain the sterling reputation they believe they have. In reality, KU is nothing but a pretentious Ivy League wannabe.

KU has most of KBOR and most of the Topeka legislators in its pocket and always will. Fight back, ESU! I know that many of the faculty and administrators at ESU have KU degrees - inbreeding is a big part of the problem - but don't just roll over for KU like you always have in the past!

Quack, from your comment, I now see why carrer funding will be cut for high school journalism classes. You are probably a 3rd generation guy who got to the top the hard way--fighting your own laziness and ignorance every step of the way.
