ESU, KU at odds over proposed program at Johnson County Community College

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

A proposal by Emporia State University to offer a program at Johnson County Community College to produce more teachers was tabled this week after University of Kansas officials said the community college is in their service area.

During a meeting of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Kansas Board of Regents on Tuesday the committee was asked to put ESU’s request on the regents’ agenda for consideration during its monthly meeting later this month, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.

Because several questions came up during the discussion, the committee decided to keep the issue off the agenda to allow interested parties to get together and discuss the matter further.

“Emporia State University is working closely with the Kansas Board of Regents on the approval process for the elementary education program at Johnson County Community College. We want to make this a convenient opportunity for education students and citizens in that area,” said Bill Noblitt, director of marketing and media relations for ESU, said on Wednesday afternoon.

I understand that KU is also threatened by ESU's Championship Women's Basketball team and will attempt to lock ESU out of recruiting in the KC metro area..... :P Can't hang with the competition Jayhawk nation? But, unfortunately KU will win this battle. KU has most of KBOR and most of the Topeka legislators in its pocket and always will. Fight back, ESU! Don't just roll over for KU like you always have in the past!

Stay strong ESU! We have one of the top (if not THE top) elementary education programs in the country! KU needs to quit whining - they don't own the state of Kansas! Good grief!
