Don’t tear down
Tuesday, November 16, 2010
We are writing to show our support for Mr. Anderson and his efforts to save and renovate the Quonset buildings on the Lyon County fairgrounds.
It shouldn’t take too much time and energy to keep the buildings in usable condition for many years to come.

I agree gg. This is really getting old. Maybe they should just bulldoze them in the middle of the night and be done with it.

The Andersons have held their gift over the heads of the people of Lyon County for years now. They screamed when a good plan came forward to sell the existing fairgrounds and relocate. And now they balk at tearing down World War II-era temporary buildings. ENOUGH!
I would strongly urge Clint Bowyer to withdraw his gift and tell the people of this county to shove it! It's clear that people like the Grimsleys (and sadly too many Lyon Countians) have no interest in improving our community; they seek to destroy it by refusing to allow any semblance of progress to move forward.

If any of these people were on the Fair Board and worked as hard as they have, they might have a right to stop the project. The Board has spoken and it is time to move on. You can't allow these people to stop something as great as this gift.

Old people like old things. Anyone know how old the Grimsleys are? I'm betting they're over 70...

Henry, maybe you will reach 70 one day if your mouth doesn't get you terminated before that. Have a little respect.

An outsiders view. I grew up/lived in Emporia for 30 years. I love Emporia and it's heritage. My wife & I were in Emporia 3 weeks ago for a few days. I stopped at the fair grounds one day while we were there to look at the "huts" as I follow the local news. They are in absolute disrepair.
Everyone-Let them go. Move on. They cannot last forever. They served their purpose.......

The people that want to keep the "huts" have the mentality of "its always been that way and by God it should be that way as long as I'm around".
If they were born with a pitch fork stuck in there @$$ they would leave it forever just because it had always been there.

The legacy of a wonderful gift to the children of Lyon County by the late E.T. Anderson seems to be endangered of being tarnished by the continued resistance of change of the current one.

yet another letter from people who don't know what they are talking about. apparently they missed the fact that mr. anderson withdrew his offer to fix them up, when he got the cost estimates. he now supports their removal. oh, and to the move em somewhere else on the grounds crowd. do the math. you could build new morton buildings for less. get over it, and get out of the way.

joecitizen,
When did this happen? Have heard nothing in the local news media about it. it seems newsworthy to me that Anderson is for their removal now. interesting as he had a couple of equally tacky looking grain trucks in the veterans parade, promoting the quonset huts.

I am so glad somebody finally brought that up. Just exactly what place did two old grain trucks have in the Veterans Day parade supporting keeping the Quonset Huts. Keep in mind that neither of them had one word on them that I saw about veterans at all. I thought it was very out of place.

biscuitboy,
While we all have the right to express our opinions and freedom of speech, I think it was an unfortunate use of the veterans parade to push the agenda. Those trucks had the message had nothing to do with honoring our vets.
If the chamber was in charge of the parade I hope they will enforce their rules in the upcoming Christmas parade and at least require the entries to have some mention of the parade theme on them.
My first thought when I saw those trucks was, " Would the original donors of the fairgrounds be proud?"
