According to police scanner traffic in Emporia, a person has driven a vehicle into the Dollar General store, 1330 Industrial Road.
Scanner traffic at the scene indicated that an elderly woman had driven into the store and the vehicle was inside the store.
Gazette photographer Matt Bristow reported from the scene that the car was completely inside the store and had taken out some of the cinder block wall and glass doors.
No one was hurt in the accident.
Further information will be published as it becomes available.

Of course if the woman drove her vehicle into the store then the car would be inside the store,, what journalism course did this reporter take?

newme314,
If a person "drove into" a mailbox, would that automatically mean the car was inside the mailbox? "Driving into" and "driving inside" can be two different things.
Example:
I "ran into" a mailbox while jogging.
OR
I "ran into" the store for a quick bite to eat.
See the difference, smarty pants?

Couldn't have said it better 'enry! Glad nobody was hurt. I wonder if her age had anything to do with this?
Leads me to believe something may need to be done to insure our more elderly drivers are okay to be on the streets, not only for our own safety but for theirs as well.

My understanding of the article is the reporter was telling us that the car was COMPLETELY in the store, not just part way. I belive that is what that comment was meant to say.

things like this happen all the time with todays distractions envolved in our everyday lives, its what auto coverage is for. Since there were no injuries its worth a good chuckle then move-on. proposing some bill for restriclions against any drivers, regardless of age, who have an accident IMO is unnecessary and a little narcasystic. lighten up!

the way it reads to me; Is some lazzy-ass, is sitting on "their" (lazy-azz) "just" listening to the scanner and Said "Lazy-Azz-told some flunky with a camera to take a picture and report what they see . . .
Hence; The lack of journalism in this publishing.

Yes you are right, I was Critical (my demons; got the best of me). I should have said: the way it reads to me; Is some one, is sitting in "their" chair "just" listening to the scanner and Some one just told some one with a camera to take a picture and report what they see . . .
Hence; The lack of journalism in this publishing.

Just heard on KVOE the driver was a 90 year old woman.
I hope the police do not file charges, if she gives up her drivers license.
It is time for the L-Cat ma'am.

Amen Steve,
I am by no means young, but some of these old/older people need to have a driving test, with an examiner in the car with them while driving, as well as an eye test, before their drivers license is renewed ! It would be an eye opening experience for the examiners/testers !
Shoot just watching the old ones trying to park their vehicle is enough to scare the pants off me !
I have told my sister and my children if and when they are riding with me or see me driving and it is scaring them as well as others to take my keys and talk me into giving up my drivers license and vehicle keys voluntarily , but I hope I will have the common sense and espect for others to do so myself !
Don' t get me wrong, I am not bashing seniors in general . But there comes a time in ones life, when they/you must realize that they just cannot do what they used to, as well as when they were younger !
Hell, I have even come to realize that there are things that I cannot do as well as when I was younger and don' t even attempt to do them, not only for my sake, but for the sake of others . No one wants to grow old, but growing old is the natural order of all things ! Everything grows older, every second of every day !

90?! People should be made to turn-in their license when they turn 65. This would help prevent accidents and also be good for the environment. It could also stimulate the economy because there would be a greater demand for public transportation. Here's hoping for a safer, greener, more profitable tomorrow! What can we do to get this on the next ballot?
'enry
Also, voting rights should be taken away at 80 since most folks that age are no longer a contributing member of society. We'd have Sunday liquor sales and a Quonset-free fairground by now if it wasn't for the 80+ folks. Flame on!

Henry - I agree with the idea of what you're saying, but 65 is a little unfair! For instance my grandfather is nearly 80 and he's one of the best drivers I know! And he's not a little old man with a walker and a hump in his back - he's got the attitude and the spunk of someone in their 50's. A lot of 65+ people are the same way, and perfectly capable of driving. I do, however, agree completely with the voting thing ;) LOL
