Longbine loses Lyon, but wins election

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Emporia City Commissioner Jeff Longbine lost Lyon County but that’s the only thing he lost in Tuesday’s general election.

Longbine swept the other six counties in the 17th District to win election over Jerry Karr to the state senate for the remaining two years of Jim Barnett’s term.

Longbine, who was appointed interim state senator Oct. 12, will resign from the Emporia City Commission later this month. His last city meeting will be Nov. 17.

Longbine began the night watching the Emporia State women’s basketball team win an exhibition game. Then he headed to the courthouse to watch how well his opponent was doing in his home county.

“I thought I would do better in Lyon County,” Longbine said. “I spent my whole life here. So I was concerned, but I was confident in the returns from the other counties because I worked so hard there. I was hoping they would pull through for me. They were huge.”

I'm not surprised he lost Lyon County. Now we will all lose......

The people that know him turned him down, the rest of the counties didn't know him and voted a Republican ticket. Mickey Mouse would have had the same results there.

CONGRATULATIONS Senator Longbine !

Get in there and fight for Kansas.

This was a race where it didn't really matter who one it, BOTH candidates are very able and I know they are BOTH concerned with the state of the state.

Once again congratulations.

I am starting to think that posting anything on any Longbine thread is a waste of time as it won't be there long. So I will just leave it alone.

You are probably correct on that biscuitboy.

One of the many problems with Longbine and the other politicians is they have never had to make choices with needs, all of them were met by their parents, just wants choices. I bet Longbine didn't have any student loans for higher education, work extra jobs while in college to make ends meet, not be able to have something he needed because he couldn't afford it. To me that is why they all spend our money irresponsibly because they have never had to be on a budget in their personal lives and sacrifice making hard choices. Give me a guy that was successful without a silver spoon any day, they have experienced what most of us have and know you don't spend what you don't have.

Everything this guy sent me in the mail said he supports family values. Then why was he at the Emporia State game last night instead of at his daughter's band/orchestra recital? I went to my daughter's recital.I support family values. Vote for me.

I have been reading blogs on here for quite awhile but never registered to make any comments my self. I can no longer hold my tongue when people say things they obviously know nothing about. I have known Jeff Longbine for many years and I guarantee you solong doesnt have a clue as to what they are talking about. To make a comment that All politicians have never had to need for anything shows your ignorance! I cant believe people can talk negative about someone who they dont know. You have no idea how hard he works for his business and this community. Lastly wookie, if you think just because Jeff was at the game last night and has no family values then you dont know him either!

Yea people...get over it. I personally thought bad choices were made in many elections yesterday but the people have spoken so we move on and hope all my misgivings are wrong. Give em all a chance to prove me wrong or prove me right then we will do it all again in two years. And yes my constant critics....I did say it was a dark day for Kansas this morning....I am saying it's time to move on this afternoon.....so make something of that to if you must.

cityslicker, so very true. We so need to join forces and unit. The old saying "life is what you make it" holds so true and in joining forces we can make it GOOD!!! We had two good candidates and only one could win, let's work together now in making our city, county one of the best in Kasas. A city that says "If moving to Kansas, Emporia has it all!" (and we do!)

root 444, I may be ignorant about some things, I certainly am not perfect, but I should correct myself and say the vast majority of politicians have never had to make choices about needs. That being said, did it get your attention that in a solidly Republican county like Lyon Longbine got his behind kicked, the people that know him best said no to Jeff Longbine even though a number of them probably voted straight R. YOU are ignorant about one thing, I DO KNOW him and I stand by what I said!

wookie, What makes you think that Senator Longbine did not go to his daughter's recital? Maybe it was because his daughter was not there! That would make sense.

Wow. You guys just need to get over the fact you lost. Get over it and move on.

Thanks for the link, sail. That map is mighty red, mighty red.

Let's hope the people who have been voted in will now stop playing party games, get to work and do something about this mess we are experiencing. We've been at the mercy of those gamers for a long time.

I hope Obama got the message too, and not just paying lip service to what just happened. Yes, he did get a "shellacing" as he admitted. He spent far too much time and energy trying to get too many things passed. Get the people back to work first. Period.

solong, i dont think i would call lyon county a behind kicking. i for not one minute believe that the people said no to Longbine but in fact said yes to Karr. Karr is a good man and deeply cares about this state with a proven track record of serving the people of Kansas. he has a huge following in lyon county, especially in north country. i give credit to the people of lyon for crossing party lines and voting for a good candidate like Karr. all i am saying is i dont think you should attack politicians personally, just disagree with their policies. sounds to me like there is some jealousy issues, with that being said "solong" solong!

If you go to the link I posted, then you may just understand what I have been saying for years, about who is actually " Ruling " the U.S. and its peoples !

And the thing is, if these people who put a lot of money on a particular Party to gain power and that party does not " toe the line " that these money people tell thim to .... then come next election these same money people will put large sums of money on whoever they believe will be good little " servants " to their cause and it doesn' t really matter which political party that may be !

Elections, Political Partys, Politicians and Governments are bought and sold just like any other " Commodity " !

To be honest, How Jeff and his cohorts handled the question of " Spending taxpayer money, Balancing the City Budget " and basically the way he and his cohorts on the City Commission asked the public for suggestions on where to cut spending in the City Budget and then pretty much just shoved the suggestions of the public into the " Kook " file, is what influenced my vote quite a bit. And makes me think he will be no different as a State Senator .

I don' t believe he has the " Sand " to " Buck, Brownback " !

The people of Lyon Co and their vote should give Jeff a hint that he's got some work to do to gain their support.

Tread lightly and do the right thing Senator Longbine, or your tenure will be very short.
