Ethan Pearson has been working out at 6:15 every morning this week at Emporia State.
The junior pole vaulter for Emporia High is getting up to prepare for the Class 5A state track meet in Wichita on Friday and Saturday. Pearson’s event, pole vaulting, will begin at 8 a.m. Friday. Pearson, who cleared 14 feet, 6 inches last weekend at regionals, is aiming to clear the school record of 15 feet Friday.
He didn’t always plan on being a pole vaulter. When he was a freshman, he considered playing golf in the spring.
It’s not that he was a great golfer.
“I’m a disc golfer,” he said. “I’ve never touched a golf club.”

You get it big guy, alot of kids wouldn't put in the effort that you are. Knowing you as well as I do I know you'll get that record and maybe more. And you young kids out there take notice of this, you may be blessed with alot of athletic ability, but it you slack off, you're going to get beat by the kid who works harder...Ethan is the kid who works harder, I was the kid who worked harder, be the kid who works harder.
