Warrensburg, Mo. — Emporia State's baseball team lost to Central Missouri 12-4 in its second game at the NCAA South Central Regional, ending the Hornets' season with a 42-16 record.
The Hornets fell behind 7-0 early and couldn't mount a serious comeback. ESU starter Jake Hosey hit three batters and gave up five earned runs in just 1 2/3 innings of work. Emporia State got two runs in the second, with David Albritton hitting a home run and Andy Cotton stroking an RBI single, and the Hornets added another run in the third when Kevin Wempe walked with the bases loaded to make it 7-3. But ESU wouldn't get any closer after that.
Albritton and Jeremy Francis each had two hits for ESU, and Chris Dobler went 1 for 3 with a pair of walks. Tyler Ruch went 4 for 5 with four RBIs for Central, and Chance Tuttle went 3 for 5 with a home run.
