Disrespect

Saturday, March 27, 2010

Once again Emporia was the recipient of the very best of our military by way of the performance brought to us by the Airmen of Note and their exquisite vocal artist.

Thank you to these committed men and women for giving of their lives so that ours are free and enriched. It is a privilege that we may go about our daily lives knowing that all over the world our military are protecting us and allowing joy into our lives.

However, I am appalled at the lack of disrespect that I observed in the ESU students seated around us during the national anthem. Not only in posture while we were to stand in respect, but the hats were worn throughout the song as well as the phones they just had to text with at that moment.

These students go about their lives day after day, enjoying the freedoms that our military afford to them, daily being educated so they may someday live a life of success all the while ignoring their responsibilities to be good citizens. With freedom comes responsibility, which these students have yet to learn.

Take a closer look, Dexter. it's not just a few ESU students, but adults, senior citizens and youth, too. This lack of respect is a disease that's spreading.

Yep, America is the country whose government-run public schools and universities actually disdain the same government's military.

But at least we think we're pretty darn smart.

Where do you get that, Oh4? Give me some examples where the schools or universities have a "disdain" for the military.

It's hardly any different at Church. Someone always has a cell phone on and what is worse is that someone will actually be sending text or checking e-mail. On person actually answered their phone and was talking while Mass was in progress. And like the article above this was not some teenager this was an elderly lady who should have known better. Where are our manners?
