First day of spring?

Winter blasts area

Saturday, March 20, 2010

On the first day of spring, Kansas residents are digging out of a winter storm that packed a punch complete with sleet and several inches of snow.

Lyon County continues to be under a winter storm warning until 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. A storm that started Friday evening dumped five inches in Emporia and Reading, according to Channel 49 in Topeka.

“Although the snow has ended for many portions of the 49 News viewing area, the concern still exists for additional snow to fall today, primarily for areas south and east of the Kansas Turnpike,” Ed Bloodsworth of Channel 49 said on their Web site. “We have already seen reports of 4-5" of snow over on the ground, and an additional 1-3" is forecasted for this area, again mainly southeast of the Kansas Turnpike.”

Visibility this morning was recorded as less than a half a mile, according to the National Weather Service.

Drivers are being cautioned by the National Weather Service to find alternate routes of travel or use extreme caution when driving if driving is unavoidable. Roads in Emporia and Lyon County are wet, slushy and snow-packed. Drifting on Burlingame road is making for hazardous driving conditions.

No accidents were reported on the Emporia Police Department log, the Kansas Turnpike log or the Kansas Highway Patrol log as of this morning.

A few cancellations have resulted from the storm. For information on cancellations or to submit your own cancellation, go to http://www.emporiagazette.com/news/2010/mar/20/weather-related-cancellations/.

According to Channel 49, temperatures will remain in the 20s and 30s today with strong winds that will blow snow, reducing visibility. While the snow will taper off, drivers are still urged to take precautions.

The good ole boys of the Dems say it's all because of global warming and the ole master up above is probably having a good laugh. To the evolution people, it's not good to monkey with the sword of the Lord. And Obama picked KU to go all the way, what a snow job!

Obama picked North Carolina last year. Extreme weather and global warming go hand in hand. Go to morons of Emporia for profound enlightenment.

Obama picked North Carolina last year and he also picked our pockets on the bailout of the banks.

Your pocket was picked long ago when Bush tax cuts failed to finance the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
