Book reading
Grant Jenkins and Cheryl Pallant from the University of Tulsa, co-authors of a new book of poetry, “Morphs,” published by Cracked Slab Books will read from their book at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Room 222 of the William Allen White Library at Emporia State University. The event is free and open to the public.
According to the press release, “the co-authored poems in ‘Morphs’ explore new ways of thinking and living that were always available for people willing to take the risk of responding to each other.” Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
ESU concert
The Emporia State University Department of Music presents the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Albert Taylor Hall on the Emporia State University. The concert is free, but audience members must have tickets, which are available at The Emporia Gazette, KVOE and Flint Hills Music. For more information, call the ESU music department at 341-5431.
Missoula auditions
The Missoula Children’s Theatre will present “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” at 7 p.m. March 26 and 2 p.m. March 27 at Emporia High School. Fifty to 60 local students will perform in the production, stated the news release. Auditions for children in grades kindergarten through 12 will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at Emporia High School. Auditions will start promptly at 4:30 p.m.; participants are to arrive early to register. Some cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Assistant directors will also be cast to assist with the technical aspects of the production. No advance preparation is necessary. Rehearsals will be conducted every day from 4:30 to 8:45 p.m. at EHS. According to the news release, there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. For more information, call the Emporia Arts Council at 343-6473.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre, the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring for more than 30 years and will visit nearly 1,100 communities this year with 42 teams of tour actor-directors. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales. The MCT residency in Emporia is brought by the EAC with support from the Bank of America and John North Ford and help from USD 253.
Sparks gives recital
Southwestern College at Winfield will be host for the senior recital of Kara Sparks of Dodge City, formerly of Emporia, at 7:30 p.m. March 26 in Messenger Recital Hall in the Darbeth Fine Arts Center on the college campus. Sparks is a senior studying music education. She will sing several number and also perform on the trumpet. There is no admission charge. A reception will be held after the recital. Sparks is the daughter of Stacy Sparks of Winfield and Dave Sparks of Emporia.
