5 to interview for ESU alumni director position
Emporia State University
Friday, March 19, 2010
Public forums for each of five applicants for a key position in Emporia State University’s Alumni Relations operation will begin in late March and wrap up April 1.
ESU is interviewing candidates for the position of alumni director and legislative liaison. Each of the five knows his or her way around the campus already; each candidate has earned degrees from ESU.
“The public forums are a chance for the ESU and Emporia communities to meet each candidate and get an idea of the contributions he or she could make to the University and its alumni,” said Judith Heasley, executive director of University Advancement and president of the ESU Foundation.
Candidates and open forum dates include:
- • Nicholette R. Metz, currently alumni programs coordinator for ESU’s Alumni Association. The open forum for Metz will be March 26 at 1:30 p.m. in Room 330 of Visser Hall.
- • Teresa Clounch, currently associate dean of students at Baker University, Baldwin City. The open forum for Clounch will be March 29 at 1:30 p.m. in Room 330 of Visser Hall.
- • K. Tyler Curtis, currently principal of Bert Nash School, Atchison USD 409. Curtis’ open forum will be March 30 at 1:30 p.m. in the Kanza Room of ESU’s Memorial Union.
- • Andrew Dame, currently assistant vice president of alumni and donor relations at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. Dame’s open forum will be March 31 at 1:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union’s Flint Hills Room.
- • Toby Countryman, currently a teacher in the Madison-Virgil USD 386 school system. The open forum for Countryman will be April 1 at 1:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union’s Flint Hills Room.
Refreshments will be served following each forum during a social networking time with the candidates.

That's funny, I thought there was a hiring freeze at ESU. I guess an alumni director is more important than, say, a custodian for Visser Hall so the place has toilet paper and doesn't smell like garbage. How many more buildings will have to go without custodians to pay for an alumni director?

ZaneRokklyn, I feel your pain and C of E fights but, we don't exist anymore. In case you don't know, C of E stands for College of Emporia. Sometimes I think ESU needs our prayers more than our money. Some athletic scholarships might provide jobs at Visser Hall or better yet, this would be a good volunteer job for fraternity brothers both present and past. Ask not what ESU can do for you but, ask what you can do for ESU.

Only a state agency, (ESU), could announce a hiring freeze and still have 18 job openings listed on their web-site.

This is how the Orwell's all-seeing, all inescapable Big Brother works. It's all double talk, self-contradictory language, especially as used by bureaucrats, politicans, etc.

I am fairly sure the Alumni Director is hired and paid by the foundation. It is a legally separate entity from the University.

Easy solution .............. have who ever gets the aluminum dictator dude job take out the trash, scrub toilets, replace toilet paper as well as all his/her other duties. Just make sure to put it in the job description before you hire him/her so they can't complain and say "That ain't my job and I ain't goin' ta do it!".
