Wellness program
“The Right Step,” a patient centered nutrition and wellness program dedicated to promote and encourage a healthier lifestyle, will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Emporia Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave. Participants are to wear comfortable clothes to join in circuit training and walking. There is no charge for this activity, which is sponsored by the Flint Hills Community Health Center and the Lyon County Health Department.
Gardening workshop
The Garden Extravaganza will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Flint Hills Technical College. This free event includes a series of classes for beginning and experienced gardeners highlighting the Kansas Healthy Yards and Communities Program (www.kansasgreenyards.org), stated the news release. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with seminars running every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m, with a break from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch on your own. Participants may come and go throughout the day to the sessions they are interested in, or stay for all of them. Stockholder meeting
The annual stockholders meeting of the Cottonwood Community, Inc., will be held Monday at the Cottonwood Community Building. The covered dish supper is at 6:30 p.m. and the business meeting, at 7:30 p.m.
Card shower
Dorothy Nurnberg will celebrate her 90th birthday on March 30. The family would like her to celebrate with a card shower, with cards to be sent to 2016 YY Road, Emporia, KS 66801.
Driver safety
The AARP Driver Safety Program in Burlington will also be held from 1 to 3 p.m. as well as 10 a.m. to noon March 25 and 26 at the Burlington Recreation Center. To register, call the Recreation Center at (620) 364-8484 or the instructor, Bill Winter, at (620) 364-2401. People are to register by March 23, if possible.
