WICHITA (AP) — Wichita will seek jail time for the owner of three pit bulls that killed a neighbor’s dog.
Michelle Meier, an assistant city prosecutor, said the city would seek jail time for the pit bulls’ owner, Kristi Bakhtiar. She has been charged with a number of animal control misdemeanors related to the attack.
After the Feb. 12 mauling of the neighbor’s corgi, the city euthanized the three pit bulls involved in the attack.
Bakhtiar also faces multiple fines, some up to $1,000. The city has cited her in the past over two other pit bulls she owned. Those two pit bulls also were euthanized.
Bakhtiar attended the hearing Thursday when the city announced its intentions. She declined to comment. Her second court appearance is April 29.

Exactly, the owners should ultimately be responsible for their pets and their good or bad behavior.

Once again you hear of pets being put to sleep because of mis-managment.
But on the other side, you never hear of a lab or a retriever with such a violent behavior.
That is the chances you take when taking in breeds of dogs such as these.
You can say that, "I have one and they are gentle and loving". I have read numerous stories of "gentle and loving" dogs causing severe injury and death. to other animals and humans.

Once they kill a domestic animal there is no real safe alternative. If it have been a child no one would have questioned them being put down. It could very well have been. These breeds need to be cared and raised in a careful manner. That woman needs serious jail time and restitution. Doesn't Wichita have a ban on pit bulls?

We need to ask one more question. Since this woman can't seem to stay away from pit bulls, is there a deeper reason? Is she fighting them?

Any dog can go bad but some breeds are more violent than others. I have seen 1 vicious Lab. I don't know what the people did to it and a Jack Russell terrier to make them so aggressive. We called it in many times since they'd come after us on the public road when we'd go for a walk. The Lab had killed a puppy and bit a person but they didn't put it down. Some people just shouldn't have dogs, especially large ones that can do real damage to others.

Any person owning a dog that injures another domestic animal or human should serve jail time and the dog should be destroyed.
Any person that owns a dog that kills another domestic animal should serve serious jail time...(years), if it kills a person the owner should be killed.
Any person that breeds, trains, keeps, or uses animals to fight each other for fun or profit should get one shot to the back of the head where they stand.
