CANYON, TEXAS — Emporia State is headed to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2006 after its 76-45 dominating win over Northeastern State on Monday night.

The Lady Hornets left no doubts that they were the top team in the South Central Regional this week. They used a 16-2 in the first half to take control of the game, and they went on a 20-2 run in the second half to turn the game into a blowout.

All weekend its been the ESU defense that has been the difference, and that was the case once again. ESU held Northeastern State to 27 percent shooting and forced 14 turnovers.

On offense, ESU had a balanced attack with four players in double figures. Jamie Augustyn hit all four of her 3-pointers and scored 12 points. Brittney Miller and Sophia Lenard both tied for the team lead with 12 points.

Cassondra Boston, the South Central Regional tournament MVP, scored 11 points and had seven assists. Boston was joined on the All-Region team by Lenard and Alli Volkens.

Emporia State will open the Elite Eight on Tuesday, March 23 in St. Joseph, Mo.
