An Emporia woman has designed a birthday card good enough to make the first cut at Hallmark.
Patty Delmott is one of 33 finalists in Hallmark’s Birthday Your Way contest, which received more than 2,500 entries, according to the company’s Facebook page.
To celebrate the company’s 100th birthday, Hallmark invited people to create a card they wish Hallmark made.
Delmott’s card, which can be viewed and purchased at www.hallmarkcontests.com, has a photo of Delmott’s sister-in-law reading a newspaper on the cover with the words, “It’s always a great day when you wake up, read the morning newspaper ...”
Inside, the card reads, “... and don’t find your name in the obituaries. Celebrate another great year!”
As a winner, Delmott receives $250. In addition, her card could be picked for sales in Hallmark stores. If that happens, she’ll receive another $250. That announcement will come next month.
Delmott, who is married with two sons, Skyler and Asher, works in Technology and Computing Services at Emporia State University. She’s not ready to quit her day job, but does enjoy designing greeting cards.
“I do plan to enter more Hallmark contests,” Delmott said. “They have a new contest every month or two and do have quite a few people who have won more than one time.”
Delmott has submitted entries four times to Hallmark contests.
“I have an idea for the current Halloween contest and will need to get it put together by the deadline of March 22.”
