Hartford counselor dies in wreck

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Don Roberts, a longtime teacher and counselor in the area, died Wednesday night in a one-vehicle accident near Olpe.

The accident was reported around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Kansas Highway 99.

Roberts, 53, who has taught for more than 25 years, was just finishing his second year as counselor and athletic director at Neosho Rapids Elementary and Hartford High schools in the Southern Lyon County school district.

This morning, the district implemented its crisis intervention plan, according to Superintendent Mike Argabright. Counselors from other districts were available for staff and students.

I am so sorry for this loss. Don was a great man. His wife is a member of my late husband's graduating class from Hartford and they always made me feel welcome. May God be with the family during this tragedy.

Don is a heck of a guy.I'd say you never know who would miss you after you're gone-But I think he's in a place where now he knows. This is a better world because of people like him.I hadn't seen him for maybe three or four months before this.Well,I don't know what else to say.
