Emporia to leave 2 administrative jobs vacant

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Two administrative jobs in the Emporia school district will not be filled after current employees leave those posts at the end of the fiscal year.

Superintendent John Heim announced during the school board meeting Wednesday evening that the associate principal job at Emporia High School and the director of instruction job at the central office will remain open after Cruz Jasso and Patricia Smiley retire this year.

The move is part of an effort to trim costs after slashes in per-pupil aid left school officials looking for ways to replace $1.4 million taken away by the state during the past year.

The board later rehired all other administrators for the coming school year.
