Emporia High’s role players are the reason the Lady Spartans pulled away from Great Bend in Thursday night’s substate opener at EHS. They’re the biggest reason Emporia needs just one more win on Saturday to secure a third straight trip to the State tournament.
Whether it was Sarah Kolmer scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds, Taylor Elbe distributing to teammates and grabbing four fourth-quarter boards, or little-used Emily Burris stealing crucial minutes — and that’s just a sampling of what the Spartan role players did Thursday — the supporting cast did more than its job to help break a halftime tie and give EHS a 56-39 win.
